These are the commercial office shredders most buyers mean when they ask for a large office shredder — a shared machine that sits in a copy room, a mail room or an occupied department and serves a team of roughly ten to thirty people, or a whole floor. In the trade the smaller end of this range is called a departmental shredder. What they have in common is that nobody owns them, so they have to run without anyone thinking about them.

That drives the specification: a wide throat so nobody has to fold anything, a bin large enough that emptying is a weekly job rather than a daily one, and a duty cycle that survives someone arriving with a full trolley. Many machines at this level carry an automatic oiler, which removes the maintenance step most offices forget, and several carry a fine dust filter — Dahle's CleanTEC line is built around one, rated to trap up to 98% of fine dust particles. If the shredder lives among desks rather than in a copy room, that matters more than most buyers expect.

Typical figures here: 12 to 16 inch throats and 38 to 45 gallon bins. A large part of the range is the MBM Destroyit 4000 series — the 4001, 4003 and 4005 — with 16 inch throats and 44 gallon bins across the line. The same chassis is offered at several cut sizes, so you choose the security level without changing the machine: 6 mm strip at P-2, 4 x 40 mm cross-cut at P-4 and 2 x 15 mm at P-5, with sheet capacity falling from roughly 52 sheets at P-2 to 16 at P-5.
