MBM DSH0502L 4005 cross-cut 3/32" x 5/8" (2 x 15 mm)

The MBM DSH0502L is the Destroyit 4005 fitted with a 3/32 x 5/8 in (2 x 15 mm) cross-cut head, giving a P-5 rating under DIN 66399 and 24-26 sheets of 70 gsm paper per pass. It keeps the 4005's 2.12 hp motor, 16-inch throat and 44-gallon bin, and it is aimed at departments whose written policy demands P-5 rather than P-4. It is the finest cut on this chassis that still carries MBM's lifetime shaft warranty.

Why 2 x 15 mm sits exactly on P-5

DIN 66399 rates by particle area plus width limits. At 30 mm², a 2 x 15 mm particle matches the P-5 ceiling precisely. It cannot reach P-6, which demands 10 mm² or less with a width of no more than 1 mm. So this head is correctly rated with no margin in either direction, and it fits board papers, R&D files, M&A material or anything a supplier agreement labels P-5.

The price you pay in stack size and materials

The finer head asks more of the motor, so the stack falls by about a third compared with the P-4 DSH0501L, which takes 37-39 sheets on the same chassis. MBM's own guidance says real throughput can be as low as half the quoted rating, and US 20 lb bond is heavier than the 70 gsm test paper, so a comfortable working handful is noticeably smaller than 24.

The material list is also shorter. MBM clears only its P-2 and P-4 Destroyit heads for common CDs and DVDs, so treat this one as a paper machine that tolerates staples and clips. Discs and cards belong on a different shredder.

Operation matches the rest of the 4005 range: photocell start and stop, automatic reverse on overfeed, a safety flap at the throat, magnetic door protection and thermal motor protection.

Choosing among the 4005 cutting heads

• DSH0501L (P-4, 4 x 40 mm): 37-39 sheets and rated for common optical media. The better default if P-5 is not a written requirement.
• DSH0503L (P-7, 0.8 x 5 mm): super micro-cut at 10-12 sheets, with a one-year warranty on its shafts instead of lifetime.
• DSH0395O (4003, 2 x 15 mm): the same P-5 particle on the lighter 4003 at 16-18 sheets.

Who should choose the 4005 P-5

Buy it when P-5 is written into a contract or classification and a department needs one machine to keep up. Skip it if P-4 would satisfy your policy, if you need to destroy media, or if your requirement is P-7 or NSA-grade particles.
