MBM DSH0502L 4005 cross-cut 3/32" x 5/8" (2 x 15 mm)

This is the 4005 built for organisations whose policy names P-5 rather than P-4. The 2 x 15 mm cross cut produces a 30 mm² particle, which is exactly the DIN 66399 P-5 limit, and that precision is the point: it is the smallest particle you can get out of this chassis without dropping to the super micro-cut head and its shorter warranty. The cost is throughput - 24 to 26 sheets a pass against 37-39 for the P-4 version - and a narrower list of things you can safely feed it. Everything else is identical to the rest of the 4005 range: the same 2.12 hp drive, the same 16-inch throat, the same 44-gallon bin and the same photocell-controlled operation.

Specifications

MBM quotes sheet capacity at 70 gsm paper on its published spec sheet and prints an explicit caveat alongside it: "realistic throughputs can be as low as half that of the theoretical capacities quoted." US 20 lb bond is roughly 75 gsm and slightly heavier, so plan around the lower end of the range, not the headline number.

What's in the Box

Supplied assembled on castors with the pull-out shred bin, operating manual and power cord. Disposable bags are not included; the bin can be run bare or lined. Confirm the current liner part number for the 4005 bin with your dealer before ordering, as MBM does not print it on the model spec sheet.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it when P-5 appears in writing somewhere - a government supplier agreement, a defence or pharmaceutical contract, an internal classification for board papers, commercially sensitive R&D or M&A material. It is also the right pick when you want materially better security than P-4 but cannot justify the productivity hit at P-7, and when you would rather keep the lifetime shaft warranty than trade it away for a smaller particle. accept the 10-12 sheet rate and one-year shaft warranty of the super micro-cut DSH0503L.

Do not buy it as a general office machine. Dropping from 37-39 sheets to 24-26 for security you do not need is a real productivity cost, and the DSH0501L at P-4 is the better default. Do not buy it if you need to destroy optical media or cards: MBM clears only its P-2 and P-4 machines for the most common CDs and DVDs, so this variant should be treated as a paper-and-fasteners machine. And if the requirement is genuinely P-7 - a specific classification, or NSA-grade particle size - this machine does not reach it and the DSH0503L does.
