Collection: NSA/CSS Approved Government Shredders

These are high-security shredders sold for government, military and cleared-contractor use. Before you order, it is important to understand exactly what “NSA approved” means — and what it does not.

NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 governs the destruction of classified US paper material. It requires a shred particle no larger than 1 mm x 5 mm, and it requires that the specific make and model has been evaluated by the NSA and appears on the current NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List (EPL) for High Security Crosscut Paper Shredders. The EPL is revised periodically: models are added, and models are removed. A machine that was listed in a previous revision is not automatically listed today.

Two things follow from that. First, a DIN 66399 P-7 rating is not the same as an NSA listing — the NSA does not issue DIN levels, and a shredder can meet P-7 without appearing on the EPL. Second, no retailer, ourselves included, can tell you that a category of machines meets “all federal agency requirements”. Requirements are set per agency and per material classification, and compliance attaches to the exact model number you buy.

Use this collection as a starting shortlist, then verify your chosen model against the current EPL revision and against your own agency’s destruction policy. These machines are also well suited to controlled unclassified information (CUI), ITAR-controlled material and any commercial application needing the finest available shred.
