Description

The intimus 175 CP7 is a high-security shredder that runs at departmental scale. It cuts to 0.8 x 4.5 mm — a 3.6 mm² particle, inside the 5 mm² ceiling DIN 66399 sets for P-7 — and intimus North America lists it as NSA listed, with a durability rating of 29 reams per hour feeding eleven sheets. That combination of a top-of-scale particle and a 405 mm feed opening is what separates it from every other machine in this range.

Key Features

  • P-7 / F-3, the highest level on the DIN 66399 paper scale. Nothing above it exists for paper; any higher number quoted elsewhere is a misreading of the standard.
  • NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List. intimus North America states the 175 CP7 is NSA listed and publishes an NSA durability rating of 29 reams per hour at eleven sheets. Confirm the current EPL entry for your model and order date before certifying a purchase against it.
  • 405 mm (16 in) feed opening — rare on a P-7 machine, and the reason this unit can absorb a secure room's output rather than one desk's.
  • Built-in automatic oiler with a 1-gallon jug, supplied as standard. On a P-7 cutting head lubrication is what keeps particles on specification, so automating it is the right decision.
  • Up to 9 sheets a pass at 80 g/m²; intimus North America quotes up to 11 per pass and up to 465 sheets per minute on lighter US stock.
  • 46.25-gallon (175 litre) bin and 54 dB(A) at idle.
  • Rated for paper with staples, and foil. Deliberately narrow — a 0.8 mm cutting geometry is not for mixed media.

What's in the Box

Machine on castors, 175-litre bin, power cord and the built-in automatic oiler with its 1-gallon oil jug. Bin liners are not included and intimus does not publish a bag part number for the 175 series on its North American site; size liners to the 46.25-gallon bin. Replacement cutting-block oil is a consumable ordered separately.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy it if you have a written NSA or P-7 requirement and enough volume that a deskside high-security machine would become the bottleneck. Government offices, cleared facilities, defence contractors and secure records operations are the typical buyers. The 16 in throat and the standard automatic oiler are the two things that make P-7 sustainable at this scale rather than merely possible.

Do not buy it if nobody has actually asked for P-7 in writing. Nine sheets a pass is roughly a fifth of what the intimus 175 CP4 manages in the same cabinet, the rated material list drops to paper with staples and foil — no discs, no plastic cards — and the warranty moves into intimus's high-security class at one year parts and one year on the cutting cylinders, against the lifetime limited cylinder cover the P-4 and P-5 models carry. If you need P-7 for a small secure room rather than a department, the intimus 45 CP7 runs the identical 0.8 x 4.5 mm particle in a deskside cabinet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the intimus 175 CP7 NSA approved?

intimus North America lists the 175 CP7 as NSA listed and publishes an NSA durability rating of 29 reams per hour feeding eleven sheets. Note what that does and does not mean. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires both a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and the specific model appearing on the current NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List; a P-7 rating alone never establishes it. The EPL is revised periodically, so verify the live entry for your model and purchase date before certifying it on a contract.

Can it shred CDs, DVDs or plastic cards?

No. intimus rates the 175 CP7 for paper with staples, and foil, and nothing else. Optical media and plastic cards are on the material list for the 175 CP4 and 175 CP5 but not for the P-7 machine, because a 0.8 mm cutting geometry will chip on rigid polycarbonate. Destroy discs and cards on a machine rated for them, or on a dedicated media destroyer, and keep them out of this feed opening entirely.

Does it come with an oiler?

Yes, and it is standard rather than optional. intimus North America specifies a built-in automatic oiler with a 1-gallon jug on the 175 CP7. That is deliberate: at P-7 the cutting cylinders have to stay lubricated to keep producing on-specification particles, and intimus's warranty terms make lubrication a condition of coverage. You still need to keep the reservoir topped up with intimus cutting-block oil, which is a separate consumable.

What is the duty cycle before it needs to cool down?

intimus does not publish a duty-cycle figure for the 175 CP7, so we will not quote one. What intimus does publish is an NSA durability rating of 29 reams per hour feeding eleven sheets at a time, which is a sustained-throughput figure rather than a burst figure and is the more useful number for planning a shift's work. If your application depends on a specific continuous-run time, ask us and we will get it confirmed by intimus North America rather than estimate it.

How does this compare to the intimus 45 CP7?

Same particle, different scale. Both cut 0.8 x 4.5 mm at P-7 / F-3. The 45 CP7 takes five sheets a pass through a 235 mm throat into a 45-litre bin and fits under a desk. The 175 CP7 takes nine sheets at 80 g/m2 through a 405 mm throat into a 175-litre bin, takes tabloid flat, and includes the automatic oiler as standard. Choose the 45 for a low-volume secure room; choose the 175 when a department has to comply.

Why is the warranty shorter than on the P-4 model?

Because intimus North America places NSA-listed high-security shredders in their own warranty class: one year parts, 90 days labour and one year on the cutting cylinders. Commercial shredders such as the 175 CP4 and 175 CP5 get two years parts and a lifetime limited warranty on the cutting cylinders against fracture. It is worth pricing that difference into a total-cost comparison, because it is easy to miss when comparing purchase prices alone.

Will tabloid paper fit?

Yes. At 405 mm (16 in) the feed opening takes tabloid and ledger flat, along with letter, legal and A4. This is unusual for a P-7 machine and it is one of the reasons to choose the 175 over a deskside high-security unit — on a nine-sheet machine, folding oversize documents to fit a narrow throat would leave you with almost no usable capacity.
