Description

The Dahle CleanTEC 41434 is the workhorse of Dahle's NSA-listed high-security range: the same 1 x 4.7 mm P-7 particle as the smaller 41334, but rated by NSA for high volume and fed by a 30-gallon bin instead of 23. Eight sheets per pass through a 10.25-inch throat. If you have a documented NSA/CSS 02-01 destruction requirement and more than a couple of people generating classified waste, this is the model that stops the shredder becoming the bottleneck.

Key Features

  • NSA/CSS EPL listed, high-volume rating. Dahle North America's 41434 appears on the current NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for paper shredders with a high-volume rating. Listing, not particle size alone, is what constitutes NSA approval.
  • 1 x 4.7 mm particle, DIN 66399 P-7. 4.7 mm² per fragment, inside the 5 mm² P-7 ceiling with a 1 mm strip width.
  • 8 sheets per pass at 20 lb bond. Three sheets more than the 41334, which is a 60% increase in throughput on a machine class where every sheet counts.
  • 30-gallon waste bin. Seven gallons more than the 41334. Because P-7 waste packs densely, bin capacity translates almost directly into time between empties.
  • CleanTEC fine dust filtration. Dahle states up to 98% of fine dust is captured at the cutting head.
  • Automatic EvenFlow Lubricator. Continuous automatic lubrication of the cutting cylinders, removing the manual oiling step that high-security heads otherwise require.
  • Chain-driven, continuous-duty motor. Specified for slip-free power under sustained P-7 load, with automatic power-down after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Figures above are as published by Dahle for this model. Dahle quotes sheet capacity under ideal conditions - new cutting cylinders, a cold motor and a supply at nominal voltage and frequency. Dahle does not publish a motor wattage, amperage or duty-cycle figure for this shredder.

What's in the Box

Dahle does not publish a full packing list for this model. What ships is the assembled shredder on its waste-bin cabinet with lockable casters, the power cord and the instruction manual.

  • Shred bags are not included. The 30 gallons bin takes Dahle shred bags item #20725, sold separately in boxes of 100.
  • The CleanTEC dust filter is fitted at the factory. Replacements are a separate consumable.
  • The EvenFlow Lubricator requires Dahle shredder oil, which is an ongoing consumable and is not supplied in quantity with the machine.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Choose the 41434 for a secure office or programme team of roughly three to five people with an ongoing classified destruction load. It is the middle of Dahle's high-security range and the point at which the machine stops feeling like a constraint on the working day.

If your classified volume is genuinely light - one workstation, occasional destruction - the CleanTEC 41334 costs less and does the same cut at 5 sheets a pass. If you are centralizing destruction for a whole secure facility, the CleanTEC 41534 gives you a 12-inch throat and a 38-gallon bin in a department cabinet. And if you do not have an NSA or P-7 requirement in writing, this is the wrong purchase: you will pay high-security prices and accept 8 sheets per pass when a Dahle 51414 at P-4 would take 18 and satisfy the overwhelming majority of commercial destruction policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NSA approval real, and how do I verify it?

It is verifiable. NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 sets a maximum 1 mm x 5 mm particle and requires the model to be on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for paper shredders. Dahle North America's 41434 appears on the current list with a high-volume rating. The EPL is published and revised quarterly, so if approval is a contractual requirement, cite the specific EPL edition in force on your purchase date rather than a manufacturer statement.

What does the high-volume NSA rating mean in practice?

The EPL categorises listed shredders by tested volume. The 41434 and 41534 carry high-volume ratings; the smaller 41334 is rated medium. The rating describes sustained destruction capacity, not particle size - all three cut identically at 1 x 4.7 mm. If your facility's destruction plan specifies a volume category, this is the field to check.

Only eight sheets? That seems low.

It is low compared with an office shredder, and it is normal for P-7. Cutting a page into roughly 1 x 4.7 mm fragments is an enormous amount of cutting work per sheet. Dahle publishes 8 sheets on 20 lb bond and 10 on 16 lb stock, which is at the upper end of what NSA-listed machines in this size class manage. Plan your workflow around feeding steadily rather than dumping stacks.

Can it shred CDs, DVDs or credit cards?

No. Dahle lists paper as the media for this model and publishes no optical-media rating for it. Classified optical and magnetic media destruction requires separately evaluated equipment under different NSA/CSS specifications. Remove staples and clips before feeding as well - this cutting head is built to a 1 mm tolerance and metal is hard on it.

How much oil does it use and what kind?

The EvenFlow Lubricator meters oil continuously rather than in bursts, so consumption is steady and modest, but it is a genuine consumable. Use Dahle shredder oil; aerosol lubricants and household oils can leave residues that attract paper dust to the cylinders. Unlike Dahle's oil-free office machines, running this head dry will shorten its life.

How often will a 30-gallon bin need emptying?

Less often than the sheet rate suggests. P-7 particles are tiny and pack densely, so a 30-gallon bin holds a great deal more paper by weight than the same bin on a cross-cut machine. The bin-full auto-off stops the shredder when it is time. Be aware the full bag is heavy - plan for that if the machine is used by one person.

What bags and filters does it take?

Dahle shred bags #20725 (20-30 gallon, 100 per box), sold separately. The CleanTEC dust filter is a replaceable consumable; Dahle does not publish a replacement interval for this model, so follow the manual shipped with the unit and inspect the filter each time you change the bag.

Is 52 dB quiet enough for a secure office?

It is comparable to Dahle's mainstream office models and quieter than the desk-side 52214 at 60 dB. The 41334 is marginally quieter at 50 dB. In a small enclosed secure room the CleanTEC dust filtration is likely to matter more to the people working there than the two-decibel difference.
