GBC TAA Compliant Commercial Shredder, CHS10-30, High Security, 10 Sheets

The GBC CHS10-30 is a TAA-compliant, German-built high-security shredder that reduces paper to 0.8 x 5 mm particles, about 4 mm² each, which is DIN 66399 level P-7, the top paper class in the standard. It takes a few sheets at a time and paper only. It is meant for agencies, contractors and offices bound by a written rule to destroy documents at P-7, not for everyday office waste.

Read the sheet rating, not the model number

The "10" in CHS10-30 is part of the name, not the capacity. ACCO's published figure is 5-7 sheets of 70 g/m² paper or 4-6 sheets of 80 g/m². US 20 lb bond sits between those two weights, so plan on roughly five or six sheets per pass. The front-panel LED capacity indicator matters on a head this fine: it shows when a stack is close to the limit before the cutters labor.

The intake is paper only. Staples, paper clips, credit cards and CDs are all excluded, so documents need to be unbound before they reach the 260 mm (10.2 in) opening. Letter and A4 pages pass without folding.

What P-7 means, and why the CHS10-30 oils itself

DIN 66399 allows a P-7 particle no more than 5 mm² in area and no more than 1 mm wide. At 0.8 mm wide and roughly 4 mm², this cut clears both limits. For comparison, P-5 permits particles up to 30 mm² and P-4 up to 160 mm², so this is the class for classified or top-secret paper where even partial reassembly is unacceptable.

Cutters that fine work under heavy friction, and dry cylinders are what wear a high-security head out early. The CHS10-30 injects oil automatically, so lubrication does not depend on someone remembering it; keep the reservoir filled with shredder oil rather than aerosol sprays or kitchen oils. The waste bin slides out of the cabinet without lifting the cutting head. P-7 waste is light and fluffy, so the bin fills by volume sooner than its 100 liters suggests.

CHS10-30 or another TAA-compliant GBC?

• GBC CM15-30: the same 260 mm opening and 100-liter bin with a P-5 cut of 2 x 15 mm. It takes 15-17 sheets at 70 g/m² and is the sensible choice when the policy says confidential rather than classified.
• GBC CX22-44: a P-4 cross-cut with a 400 mm (15.75 in) opening and a 165-liter bin, built for volume rather than particle size.

Neither of those reaches P-7. If your requirement names that level, the CHS10-30 is the only one of the three that meets it.

Who should buy the CHS10-30, and who should not

It suits government offices, defense and federal contractors, and legal or executive teams with a documented P-7 obligation and a few hundred sheets to destroy, not thousands. Do not buy it to clear general office paper: the small stack, paper-only feed and slower throughput will frustrate staff who are used to feeding stapled files. A P-5 or P-4 machine handles that work faster and for less.
