Running a P-7 head day to day

A 1 mm wide cut puts real strain on the cylinders, and lubrication is what keeps them cutting cleanly. The EvenFlow Lubricator meters oil across the full cylinder width as the machine runs, so nobody has to remember oil sheets; you only refill the reservoir with Dahle 20721 (12 oz) or 20722 (1 gallon). Feed paper only. Staples, clips, cards and discs are outside its rating and will damage cylinders that Dahle warrants for one year. When a stack is too thick, the jam protection senses it and reverses before the motor stalls. After 30 minutes without use, SmartPower drops the unit into standby and then switches it off.

The 30-gallon bin takes Dahle 20725 bags, which are sold separately. P-7 waste settles into a dense, heavy mass, so lift a full bag with care and seal it before it leaves the secure area.

40434, 40334, 40534 or 20394?

• Dahle 40334: the same P-7 particle in a smaller 23-gallon cabinet, at 5 sheets per pass and 50 dB. It is EPL-listed with a Med rating, so it suits one or two users.
• Dahle 40534: a 12-inch throat and 38-gallon bin at the same 8 sheets, but 146 lb. It does not appear on the current NSA/CSS list, so it is a weaker choice where the listing is mandatory.
• Dahle 20394: EPL-listed with a 16-inch throat, 9 sheets and a 50-gallon bin, for teams that feed legal or tabloid stock.

Who should choose the 40434

It fits a SCIF, government records room or cleared contractor where NSA listing is non-negotiable, the volume is steady, and floor space is limited to a cabinet about 21.5 inches wide. Look elsewhere if you shred wide paper often, since the 10.25-inch opening takes letter stock but not tabloid. It is also the wrong tool for media mixes, as it is paper only, and for ordinary commercial confidentiality, where a P-4 machine will feed several times more paper per pass.
