KOBRA 270 TS HS-6 AO

The KOBRA 270 TS HS-6 AO is a P-7 high-security shredder that cuts each sheet into roughly 20,000 particles of 0.8 x 5 mm, the size NSA/CSS Specification 02-01 is written around. It is built on the 270 TS touch-screen chassis, so it gets a 12.2 in throat, a 29-gallon bin and an integrated automatic oiler. It is intended for cleared facilities and contractors destroying classified or protectively marked paper.

NSA listing: what to check before ordering

The 4 mm² particle sits inside the 5 mm² P-7 ceiling and within the 1 x 5 mm limit of NSA/CSS 02-01. The model also appears on the NSA Evaluated Products List, under Marquis Business Systems in the April 2026 revision. The EPL entry reads 270 TS HS-6 without the AO suffix used for the auto-oiler build, so ask your security officer to confirm the designation against the current revision before raising a purchase order.

Why oiling and load display matter more here

A P-7 head has many more cutting edges in contact with each sheet than a cross cutter. Keeping it lubricated is essential, and the AO system does it automatically from a reservoir you refill with Kobra oil. The EPC readout on the touch panel shows cutting load, which helps on a machine where the safe stack is small and overfeeding means a jam. The 500 W motor runs for 24 hours without a cool-down, reverses on a jam and stops if the door opens or the bin fills. Energy Smart standby kicks in after eight seconds and the unit disconnects after four hours idle.

Bin and waste handling

P-7 waste is fine and dusty but packs densely, so a 29-gallon bin holds a great deal of destroyed paper; throughput, not bin space, is the limit. Empty the bin carefully in small rooms. Bags and oil are not supplied with the machine.

Right buyer, wrong buyer

Right for government contractors, defense suppliers, embassies and legal teams whose policy names NSA/CSS 02-01 or P-7 and who want a large bin and a self-oiling head. Wrong for routine office shredding, where 4-5 sheets a pass would create queues, and wrong for discs or cards, which this build cannot take.
