MBM DSH0329 5009 cross-cut 11/32" x 11/2"-3" (8 x 40-80 mm)

The MBM DSH0329 is the Destroyit 5009 in its 8 x 40-80 mm cross-cut configuration, an industrial shredder that takes 600-700 sheets of 70 gsm paper per pass through a 20 in throat. It is rated P-2 under DIN 66399, the trade-off for being the fastest version of MBM's largest machine. Commercial shredding operators, records centers and large facilities running scheduled destruction days are the intended buyers.

A volume machine, not a privacy machine

The coarse 8 x 40-80 mm particle is what makes the throughput possible. At most it reaches 640 mm², inside the 800 mm² P-2 limit. That suits bulk administrative paper, superseded manuals, reference sets and binders whose main problem is volume. It does not suit personal or client-confidential records; no amount of operational care makes up for a P-2 particle. For those, the DSH0329's P-3 twin, the DSH0331, is the right choice.

The material list is the other reason to buy a 5009. MBM's US spec sheet covers hardbound documents, three-ring binders, CDs and DVDs, and the operating manual adds flat or crumpled paper and cardboard with staples. The manual excludes anything that may loop or splinter, so strapping, textiles and rigid plastics stay out.

Safety, noise and waste handling

Emergency stop, door and grid switches halt the drive, overload protection reverses the cutters automatically, and a temperature indicator with thermal shutdown protects the drive during long runs. MBM's manual gives 74 dB(A) to EN 13023, rising to 76 dB(A) with the optional conveyor in front. That is machine-room noise, and operators should be included in your workplace noise assessment.

The rated shred volume is 79 gallons, collected in 350-litre plastic bags (MBM accessory 9000 414), which are not supplied. The module conveyor belt system (accessory 9000 595) is optional and allows continuous loading. At full rate a bag fills in minutes, so plan bag removal and consolidation before installation.

Specifications

MBM rates capacity on 70 gsm paper and states that real throughput can be as low as half the theoretical figure. US 20 lb bond is slightly heavier, so plan around the lower end.

DSH0329 or DSH0331?

Both are the same 5009 chassis, 24 hp drive and 20 in throat. The DSH0329 cuts 8 x 40-80 mm at P-2 and takes 600-700 sheets; the DSH0331 cuts 6 x 50 mm at P-3 and takes 300-400. There is no 5009 above P-3. For P-5 you would move to a 4606 at 32-37 sheets, which is a very different operation.

Who should buy it

Buy the DSH0329 if you destroy non-confidential paper by the pallet and have the infrastructure: three-phase power on a dedicated 50 amp circuit, a bay over seven feet deep before any conveyor, floor loading for 3,080 lb and a plan for removing the waste. Below that scale, a 4108 or 4606 is the more sensible purchase.
