Authorized MBM Destroyit dealer New stock through the manufacturer's authorized channel, with the manufacturer's own warranty · what this covers

Description

The Destroyit 5009 in its 8 x 40-80 mm configuration is a destruction plant rather than a shredder: 600 to 700 sheets in a single pass, a 20-inch throat, 24 horsepower and 3,080 lb on the pallet. This is the highest-capacity machine MBM builds, and this variant is the fastest version of it. Its DIN 66399 rating is P-2, which is the trade you are making for that speed.

Key Features

The 5009 is the largest machine in the Destroyit line and is not an office product. It runs on 220 volt three-phase power with a dedicated 50 amp line, draws up to 24 horsepower, and ships at 3,080 lb. MBM rates it for hardbound documents, three-ring binders, CDs and DVDs in addition to flat and crumpled paper and cardboard.

  • 600-700 sheets per pass at 70 gsm - an order of magnitude beyond any office shredder.
  • 8 x 40-80 mm cross cut, DIN 66399 P-2.
  • 20-inch feed opening, wide enough for unopened files and bulky mixed waste.
  • Rated by MBM for hardbound documents, three-ring binders, CDs and DVDs as well as flat and crumpled paper and cardboard including staples.
  • 24 hp maximum on a 220 V three-phase supply with a dedicated 50 amp line.
  • Emergency stop, door and grid safety switches that halt the machine, and overload protection with automatic reverse.
  • Temperature indicator with thermal shutdown to protect the drive on long runs.
  • 79-gallon shred volume using 350-litre plastic bags (MBM accessory 9000 414).
  • Optional module conveyor belt system (accessory 9000 595) for fully fed operation.

MBM quotes sheet capacity at 70 gsm paper on its published spec sheet and prints an explicit caveat alongside it: "realistic throughputs can be as low as half that of the theoretical capacities quoted." US 20 lb bond is roughly 75 gsm and slightly heavier, so plan around the lower end of the range, not the headline number.

What's in the Box

The 5009 is delivered as a machine on a pallet and commissioned on site. Bags are not included - it uses 350-litre plastic bags, MBM accessory number 9000 414. The module conveyor belt system is a separate accessory, number 9000 595, and adds substantially to the depth required. Installation needs a 220 V three-phase supply on a dedicated 50 amp line.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it if you destroy paper by the pallet: a commercial shredding service, a records centre closing out retention periods, a large financial or government facility running scheduled destruction days. The reason to choose this configuration over the P-3 DSH0331 is throughput - 600-700 sheets against 300-400 - and the reason it can achieve that is the coarser 8 x 40-80 mm cut. If your material is bulk administrative paper, superseded manuals, hardbound reference sets and binders, this is the correct machine.

Do not buy it for personal data or client-confidential records. P-2 is a bulk-reduction rating, not a privacy rating, and no operational care compensates for the particle size. The DSH0331 is the identical machine cutting 6 x 50 mm at P-3 and is the right specification for anything with names on it. Do not buy either 5009 without a facilities assessment: you need three-phase power on a dedicated 50 amp circuit, a bay over seven feet deep before the optional conveyor, floor loading for 3,080 lb, and a plan for removing several hundred kilograms of shredded waste a day. Below that scale, the 4108 or 4606 is a far more sensible purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it really shred hardbound books and ring binders?

MBM's US spec sheet for the 5009 states that it is capable of destroying hardbound documents, three-ring binders, CDs and DVDs, and the operating manual adds flat and crumpled paper and cardboard boxes including staples. That is unusual and is one of the main reasons to buy this machine. The manual does exclude any material that may loop or splinter, so keep textiles, strapping and rigid plastics out of the feed.

Why is a machine this expensive only rated P-2?

Because you are buying throughput, not particle size. An 8 x 40-80 mm cut gives at most 640 mm2, which sits inside the DIN 66399 P-2 limit of 800 mm2 and enables 600-700 sheets a pass. If security is the objective rather than volume, the DSH0331 on the identical chassis cuts 6 x 50 mm at P-3 with 300-400 sheets. There is no higher-security 5009; for P-4 and above you need a different machine class.

What power supply and floor space does it need?

220 volts three phase on a dedicated 50 amp line, drawing up to 24 horsepower. The machine is 85.5 inches deep, 40.7 wide and 67.5 high, and depth extends to 121 inches if you fit the optional conveyor. Shipping weight is 3,080 lb, so confirm floor loading, dock access and the internal route before ordering. This is a commissioned installation, not a delivery you wheel into place.

How loud is it?

MBM's operating manual gives 74 dB(A) measured to EN 13023, rising to 76 dB(A) with the conveyor belt fitted in front. That is a machine-room noise level. Anyone working alongside it for extended periods should be covered by your normal workplace noise assessment, and it should not share a space with desks. It is a genuine industrial machine, and the published figure reflects that honestly.

What bags does it take?

350-litre plastic bags, MBM accessory number 9000 414. The rated shred volume on the US spec sheet is 79 gallons, so the bag is deliberately oversized relative to the compartment, which makes changing it easier. Bags are not supplied with the machine. At full production rates you will go through them quickly, so order by the case and keep the part number on your consumables list.

Is the conveyor included?

No. The module conveyor belt system is a separate accessory, part number 9000 595. Without it the machine is loaded directly at the 20-inch throat; with it, an operator can load continuously and the belt regulates the feed. Fitting the conveyor extends the machine's depth from 85.5 inches to around 121 inches and raises measured noise from 74 to 76 dB(A), so plan the bay accordingly.

How much waste will it produce in a day?

Enough that waste handling, not shredding, becomes your bottleneck. At 600-700 sheets a pass the machine can process well over a tonne of paper in a shift, and a 350-litre bag fills in minutes at full rate. Before buying, work out how full bags leave the room, where they are consolidated and who collects them. Sites that skip this step end up running the machine at a fraction of its capability.
