MBM DSH0396O 4003 cross-cut 3/16" x 1 1/2" (4 x 40 mm)

The MBM DSH0396O is the Destroyit 4003 fitted with a 3/16 x 1 1/2 in (4 x 40 mm) cross-cut head, a P-4 machine under DIN 66399 that takes 34-36 sheets of 70 gsm paper per pass. It is a floor-standing, castor-mounted shredder with a 16-inch feed opening and a 44-gallon bin, intended for a department or shared copy area rather than a single desk. Among the 4003 cutting heads it is the middle path: finer than the strip-cut, faster than the P-5 and P-7 builds.

How the 4003 P-4 manages its own workload

Three systems on this machine are there to keep shared use from turning into jams. ECC+ Electronic Capacity Control displays how much of the rated stack you are feeding while the paper goes in, so users see the limit before they hit it. The EASY-SWITCH panel reports status with color codes and back-lit symbols. If someone still overfeeds, the drive reverses and cuts power. Behind all of that, cross-cut 4003 models inject oil into the cutting shafts automatically, which handles routine lubrication without anyone remembering to do it.

Safety is covered by the SPS package: an electronically controlled clear flap over the feed opening, a magnetic switch that stops the drive when the cabinet door opens, and an automatic stop when the bin is full. After 15 minutes without use, ZERO ENERGY mode disconnects the machine from the supply completely, drawing 0 Wh, and the photocell wakes it when paper arrives.

What 4 x 40 mm means for your documents

DIN 66399 caps a P-4 particle at 160 mm², and this head cuts exactly that size. It is the grade most organizations adopt for personal data and internal commercial papers. It is not fine enough for a policy that names P-5, and it is nowhere near NSA particle limits. MBM rates its P-2 and P-4 builds for the most common optical discs, so this is one of only two 4003 versions you can feed a CD or DVD.

Keep MBM's own caveat in mind when planning throughput: real-world rates can fall to half the theoretical figure. US 20 lb bond is about 75 gsm, a little heavier than the test paper, so work toward the low end of the 34-36 range.

Is the 4003 P-4 the right fit?

It suits a shared office area that needs a defensible P-4 rating, wide-format paper and the occasional expired card or backup disc handled by one machine. Look at the DSH0502L or the super micro-cut DSH0397O if your contracts specify P-5 or higher, at the 4005 if the machine will run for long stretches every day, and at a deskside model if only one person will use it.
