Authorized MBM Destroyit dealer New stock through the manufacturer's authorized channel, with the manufacturer's own warranty · what this covers

Description

The DSH0395O is the P-5 configuration of the Destroyit 4003, and the reason to pick it over the otherwise similar 4001 is lubrication. MBM fits an automatic oiler to the cross-cut 4003 and none at all to the 4001, which on a 2 x 15 mm cutting head is a meaningful difference — fine cross-cut shafts lose capacity and jam when they run dry, and automatic oiling removes that from the operator’s list. Add a 1.75 HP motor against the 4001’s 1 HP, and the sheet rating rises from 13 to 16 up to 16 to 18. Throat width, bin volume and cabinet are unchanged: 16 inches, 44 gallons, standard 115 V outlet.

Key Features

  • Automatic oil injection — MBM equips the cross-cut and super micro-cut 4003 with an automatic oiler, so the shafts stay lubricated without an operator remembering to do it.
  • P-5 security — 2 x 15 mm particles equal 30 mm², at the DIN 66399 ceiling for P-5 — above the P-4 that satisfies most routine office policy.
  • 16-inch feed opening — Tabloid, ledger and wide printout feed flat, which is unusual at this security level.
  • 1.75 HP continuous-duty motor — Nearly double the 4001’s motor, which is where the extra sheets per pass come from.
  • 44-gallon shred bin — Emptied directly with no disposable bag required; AC0901 bags fit if your process needs them.
  • Electronic Capacity Control and SPS shield — Live capacity indication, electronically controlled safety shield, automatic reverse on overfeed and cut-off on bin-full or door-open.
  • Lifetime cutting shaft warranty — Cross-cut shafts are warranted for the life of the machine — the one-year term applies only to super micro-cut heads.

What’s in the Box

  • Destroyit 4003 P-5 cross-cut shredder in wooden cabinet on casters
  • Operating manual

Shredder oil for the automatic oiler is not included and must be ordered separately. Shred bags are also not included; the bin empties directly, and AC0901 bags fit.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy this if you need P-5 destruction, handle mixed or wide paper sizes, and want the machine to look after its own lubrication. Records departments, legal support functions and clinical administration teams shredding steadily through the day are the right buyers. It runs from a standard outlet, so there is no electrical work to schedule.

Do not buy this if 16 to 18 sheets is short of what you need. If the volume is genuinely heavy and P-5 is required, the 3105 in 2 x 15 mm takes 24 to 26 sheets on a 2.125 HP motor — but it has a 12-inch throat and needs a dedicated 20 amp line, so it is a different installation. Do not buy this one for optical media either: MBM clears only the P-2 and P-4 4003 builds for CDs and DVDs. And if P-4 satisfies your policy, the P-4 4003 doubles the throughput to 34 to 36 sheets for less money.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the 4001 P-5 (DSH0323)?

Three things: motor, oiler and sheet rate. The 4003 uses a 1.75 HP motor against the 4001’s 1 HP, it has an automatic oiler where the 4001 has none, and it is rated 16 to 18 sheets against 13 to 16. Everything else — 16-inch throat, 44-gallon bin, cabinet dimensions, standard 115 V supply — is the same. If the machine is used daily by several people, the automatic oiler alone usually justifies the difference.

What oil does the automatic oiler take?

Use proper Destroyit shredder oil, supplied separately. The oiler doses the shafts during operation, so your only task is keeping the reservoir filled. Do not substitute aerosol lubricants, vegetable oils or general-purpose machine oil — they leave residue that degrades cutting performance and can void the shaft warranty. Budget for oil as an ongoing consumable; the 4001 and 3104 have no oiler if you would rather avoid it.

Can it shred CDs, DVDs or ID cards?

Credit cards and similar PVC cards, yes, along with staples and paper clips. CDs and DVDs, no — MBM confirms only the P-2 and P-4 4003 configurations for optical media. The 2 x 15 mm cutting head is too fine for disc material. If you need to destroy discs as well, plan on a second machine rather than risking damage that the warranty will not cover.

Is P-5 required for HIPAA or client confidentiality?

Neither HIPAA nor GLBA names a DIN level; both require that information be rendered unreadable and unreconstructable, which P-4 normally satisfies. P-5 becomes worth specifying when a client contract, a government agency schedule or your own risk assessment names it explicitly. Read the binding wording before you buy — at P-5 you are accepting roughly half the throughput of the P-4 version of the same machine.

How often will the 44-gallon bin need emptying?

P-5 cross-cut waste compacts tightly, so the bin holds a lot by page count — considerably more than the strip-cut version of the same machine at the same number of sheets. A team shredding a couple of hundred pages a day will typically empty it every week or two. The machine cuts out automatically when the bin is full, so it stops rather than jams.

What are the installed dimensions and weight?

The cabinet is 21.5 inches deep, 25.25 inches wide and 37.25 inches high, and the cross-cut version ships at about 179 lb. It clears a standard doorway and rolls on casters once positioned. Allow clearance at the front for the cabinet door to open when emptying the bin.
