MBM DSH0331 5009 cross-cut 1/4" x 2" (6 x 50 mm)

This is the 5009 specified for material that has to be destroyed securely rather than merely reduced. The 6 x 50 mm cross cut yields a 300 mm² particle inside the DIN 66399 P-3 limit, and the machine still takes 300 to 400 sheets a pass. You give up roughly half the throughput of the 8 x 40-80 mm DSH0329 to gain that security level - on an industrial machine, that is usually the right decision.

The 5009 is the largest machine in the Destroyit line and is not an office product. It runs on 220 volt three-phase power with a dedicated 50 amp line, draws up to 24 horsepower, and ships at 3,080 lb. MBM rates it for hardbound documents, three-ring binders, CDs and DVDs in addition to flat and crumpled paper and cardboard.

Specifications

MBM quotes sheet capacity at 70 gsm paper on its published spec sheet and prints an explicit caveat alongside it: "realistic throughputs can be as low as half that of the theoretical capacities quoted." US 20 lb bond is roughly 75 gsm and slightly heavier, so plan around the lower end of the range, not the headline number.

What's in the Box

Delivered on a pallet and commissioned on site. Bags are not included; the machine takes 350-litre plastic bags, MBM accessory 9000 414. The module conveyor belt system is optional, accessory 9000 595. A 220 V three-phase supply on a dedicated 50 amp line must be in place before installation.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

Buy it for high-volume secure destruction: commercial shredding operators serving regulated clients, government and defence records centres, large hospital or bank archive programmes. It is the configuration to choose when the material contains customer or patient information and P-3 is what your contract or policy specifies. At 300-400 sheets a pass it will clear archive boxes at a rate no office-class machine approaches, and it takes binders and hardbound volumes without pre-processing.

Do not buy it if your obligations name P-4 or higher. P-3 allows particles up to 320 mm², and there is no P-4 or P-5 version of the 5009 - reaching those levels means dropping to a 4606 at P-5 and 32-37 sheets, which is a very different operation. Do not buy it if bulk reduction rather than security is the goal; the DSH0329 does 600-700 sheets on the same chassis at P-2 for less money per sheet destroyed. And do not order either 5009 before a site survey covering three-phase power, a bay over seven feet deep, floor loading for 3,080 lb and the logistics of moving the waste out.
