HSM Pure 940 1/16 x 5/8 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM23934

The HSM Pure 940 1/16 x 5/8 (HSM23934) is the P-5 version of HSM's largest standard departmental shredder: it cuts paper into 1/16 x 5/8 in (1.9 x 15 mm) micro-cut particles, takes 19-21 sheets per pass through a 15.75 in (400 mm) opening and fills a 43.6-gallon (165-liter) cabinet. A 1,920 W motor drives it. It is designed for departments that regularly handle personal or commercially sensitive paper and need P-5 without slow feeding.

Wide feed and a big motor at P-5

Most micro-cut shredders force a choice between a narrow opening and a small stack. The 940 combines the full 400 mm opening with a 1,920 W drive, so legal, tabloid and loose mixed paper go in flat and the head still takes 19-21 sheets at a time. HSM's range brochure quotes 20-22 sheets on lighter 70 g/m² paper; the 80 g/m² figure is the realistic one for US 20 lb bond.

What the P-5 classification includes

A 28.5 mm² particle sits inside the 30 mm² DIN 66399 limit for P-5. The broader rating adds O-4 for optical discs, T-5 for magnetic carriers, E-4 for electronic media and F-2 for film, and HSM lists credit cards, CDs and DVDs as accepted along with stapled or clipped paper. That lets HR, finance or clinical departments put confidential paper and old media through the same machine.

Running costs and installation

Bags are not included. The fine waste settles densely, which is why this cabinet holds more sheets of P-5 waste than the strip-cut 940. Oil the rollers by hand with HSM shredder oil, since micro-cut heads collect paper dust. At 120 V the motor pulls close to 16 A, so a dedicated circuit is sensible. The machine weighs 200.6 lb on castors and needs clear space in front to roll the bin out.

Who should buy the Pure 940 P-5

Buy it as the shared shredder for a department that holds regulated or highly confidential paper and wants P-5 with a wide opening and a large bin. It is more machine than you need for ordinary internal paper, where the P-4 Pure 940 is faster, and it does not reach P-6 or P-7, so classified material needs a dedicated high-security shredder.
