Description

If there is one machine in the Pure range that resolves the usual trade-off between security and speed, it is this one. Thirty-three to thirty-five sheets a pass at DIN 66399 P-4 is a strip-cut sheet rating with a particle-cut output, and the 1,920 W motor is what makes it possible.

For comparison within its own family: the Pure 630 and Pure 740 produce identical 4.5 x 30 mm particles and manage 20 to 22 sheets on 700 W. The Pure 830 does the same job at roughly 60 percent higher throughput. What you give up for it is a narrower 330 mm throat than the 740's 400 mm, about 5 dB(A) more noise, and a demanding electrical supply.

What's in the Box

Floor cabinet with wooden base on castors, removable collecting bag frame, wide door opening, power lead. Waste bags are not included; the bin takes a 150 litre liner. There is no automatic oiler option on the Pure 830, so manual lubrication of the particle-cut head needs to be somebody's named responsibility - order shredder oil or oil sheets at the same time.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the machine for a department that has standardised on P-4 and shreds enough that the 20-sheet ceiling on the Pure 630 and 740 has become annoying. Fifteen to thirty people can share it comfortably. It is also the sensible central machine for a floor that wants one shredder rather than three.

Three reasons to choose something else. Electrical supply: 1,920 W at 120 V is about 16 A, which needs a dedicated circuit - if you cannot provide one, the 700 W Pure 740 is the pragmatic answer at 21 to 22 sheets. Throat width: at 330 mm this is 70 mm narrower than the Pure 740, so if oversized or folded documents are routine, the 740 is easier to live with. Lubrication: with no oiler option here, a shared 830 depends on someone remembering, whereas the Pure 740 with external automatic oiler does not. If your policy specifies P-5 rather than P-4, the Pure 830 1.9 x 15 mm is this same chassis at 19 to 21 sheets.

How can a P-4 machine take 33 sheets when the Pure 740 takes 21?

Motor power, almost entirely. The cutting head geometry is identical - 4.5 x 30 mm particles in both - but the Pure 830 has a 1,920 W motor against the 740's 700 W. Particle cutting is power-limited rather than geometry-limited at this scale, so more watts translate fairly directly into more sheets per pass.

What electrical supply does it need?

Plan for a dedicated 20 A circuit at 120 V. A 1,920 W load is roughly 16 A, which is above what a 15 A branch circuit should carry continuously. Do not run it from an extension lead or a shared outlet with other high-draw equipment. This is the single most common installation issue with the 830 and it is much cheaper to solve before delivery.

Does it shred CDs, DVDs and credit cards?

Yes. The classification is E-3|F-1|O-3|P-4|T-4, so optical discs, cards, film and magnetic carriers are within specification, along with staples and paper clips in ordinary paperwork. Feed discs and cards individually. If disc destruction is a large part of your workload, the micro-cut Pure 830 destroys optical media to O-4 rather than O-3.

How many bin changes should we expect?

The 150 litre bin holds about 1,860 shredded sheets. A floor destroying 500 pages a day will change it roughly every three to four working days. If that is too often, the Pure 740 max carries 240 litres and about 2,950 sheets with the same P-4 cut, though on a 700 W motor with a lower sheet rating.

Is it too loud for an open-plan office?

Probably. At around 60 dB(A) idle it is roughly 5 dB(A) above the Pure 530, 630 and 740, and it is louder again when cutting. Site it in a print room, copy area or utility space. If it has to live among desks, the quieter 700 W machines are the better neighbours.

Does the lifetime cutting-roller warranty apply here?

Yes. HSM covers the induction-hardened solid steel cutting rollers for the life of the machine on cuts from P-2 to P-5, and this is a P-4. The warranty covers the rollers themselves, not the motor, electronics or cabinet, and it assumes the machine has been used within its rated materials - staples and paper clips are fine, ring binder hardware is not.

Should I buy this or the Pure 740 with the automatic oiler?

Ask who will maintain it. If lubrication will be done reliably, the 830 gives you 50 percent more sheets per pass for the same P-4 output and a similar bin. If the machine will be communal and unowned, the oiler on the 740 is worth more over five years than the extra sheet capacity, because an unoiled particle-cut head loses capacity anyway.
