HSM Pure 830 1/16 x 5/8 Cross Cut Document Shredder - HSM23834

The HSM Pure 830 1/16 x 5/8 (HSM23834) is a departmental P-5 micro-cut shredder that turns paper into 1/16 x 5/8 in (1.9 x 15 mm) particles while still accepting 19-21 sheets per pass, thanks to a 1,920 W motor. It feeds through a 13.0 in (330 mm) opening into a 39.6-gallon (150-liter) cabinet and is also rated for credit cards and CDs/DVDs. How a 1,920 W drive keeps P-5 practical

Micro-cut heads usually trade sheet count for particle size because every page has to be cut many more times. The 830 carries a motor almost three times as powerful as the 700 W Pure 740 max, which is why it holds 19-21 sheets at P-5 where the 740 max P-5 manages 14-15. Automatic start and stop, a standby mode and a full-bin cut-out are standard, and the cabinet opens through a wide door for bag changes.

That power has a wiring consequence. At 120 V, 1,920 W works out to roughly 16 A, so the 830 should sit on its own circuit rather than share an outlet with copiers or heaters.

Media ratings that go beyond paper

Each 28.5 mm² particle sits inside the 30 mm² DIN 66399 ceiling for P-5. Unusually for a P-5 machine, the head also carries O-4 for optical discs, T-5 for magnetic data carriers, E-4 for electronic media and F-2 for film, so one shredder can deal with confidential paper, old discs and credit cards. Feed cards and discs singly.

Upkeep and placement

There is no automatic oiler option on the Pure 830, so oil the micro-cut rollers by hand with HSM oil on a set schedule. Bags are not included. Idle noise is around 60 dB(A), higher than the 700 W Pure models, so a copy room suits it better than an open office.

It is a strong choice for legal, finance or HR teams that must meet P-5 and also want discs and cards destroyed in the same place. Look elsewhere if you cannot provide a dedicated circuit, if the machine must sit among quiet desks, or if hands-off oiling is a priority, in which case the Pure 740 max P-5 is the alternative.
