Description

The V-Press 1160 plus is the heavier build of HSM's largest vertical baler. It presses at 594 kN into a 1200 × 1200 × 1100 mm bale of up to 550 kg, ties four-fold with wire, and sits on a frame that weighs 2427 kg — 127 kg more than the eco version, on a footprint 212 mm deeper.

Everything that determines bale quality is shared with the 1160 eco: identical pressing force, identical bale, identical 1195 × 650 mm aperture, identical 4.8 kW three-phase drive. We will not tell you the plus presses better, because HSM's own published data says it does not. What it gives you is a larger and heavier machine, and if that matters for your site it is worth asking us to have the specific differences confirmed by HSM before you commit.

What's in the Box

The press, delivered by truck and positioned by the installer. Baling wire is a consumable bought separately. The optional tape station, the 480 V three-phase connection and the lifting equipment to move finished bales are all separate. No packing list is published by HSM for this machine.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

The buyer for this machine is a high-volume, continuously running site: a regional distribution centre, a large-format retailer, a manufacturer stripping bulk packaging all day, or a waste contractor consolidating dry recyclables. At those volumes the 550 kg bale is worth real money, collections drop sharply, and the extra mass of the plus frame is a reasonable thing to pay for in a machine that never stops.

Do not buy it on the assumption that "plus" means a better bale. It does not: the 1160 eco presses to the same 594 kN and the same 550 kg, is 212 mm shallower and 127 kg lighter, and on published data will produce an identical bale. If your decision is close, the eco is the smaller commitment.

And if the constraint is the building rather than the volume, step down a size. At 2985 mm this machine needs a genuinely high bay; the V-Press 825 plus pro is 615 mm shorter at 2370 mm and still makes a 280 kg bale at 250 kN, and the V-Press 820 plus is the entry point at 178 kN and 250 kg. Halving your bale weight is a smaller problem than not being able to install the press at all.

What does the plus give me over the 1160 eco?

On HSM's published specifications, a bigger and heavier machine: 212 mm more depth and 127 kg more weight. Pressing force, specific pressing pressure, bale size, maximum bale weight, loading aperture and drive power are identical. HSM does not publish a feature-by-feature comparison of the two, so if the difference is material to your decision we will ask HSM to confirm it in writing rather than guess for you.

How tall does my building need to be?

The machine is 2985 mm high and you need working clearance above it, so plan on at least 3.3 m of usable height in the bay. A nominal 3 m industrial ceiling with services running below it will not take this press. This is the most common reason a 1160 order changes to an 825 during the site survey, so measure the actual clear height under the lowest obstruction, not the slab-to-slab figure.

Is wire strapping essential, or can I use tape?

Wire is the standard fitment and it is the right choice for a 550 kg cardboard bale, which springs back hard. HSM offers a tape station as an option if polyester strapping suits your operation better, for instance because you already stock it for other machines. The smaller V-Press 820 and 825 models use polyester tape as standard because their bales are less than half the weight.

Can one operator run it safely?

Loading and pressing, yes. Strapping and ejecting a 550 kg bale is not a one-person manual task and is not meant to be: bales come out onto a pallet or the floor and are moved by forklift. Make sure the bay has clear approach for a truck and that operators are trained on the door interlock sequence before the machine is put into service.

What can I put in it besides cardboard?

HSM rates the 1160 plus for cardboard, plastic film and mixed paper. It is not a general waste press: no metal, no wood, no wet or contaminated material, and nothing that a mill would reject. Keeping streams separate matters commercially as well as mechanically, because a mixed bale is graded and paid at the value of its worst component.
