What does the plus give me over the 1160 eco?
On HSM's published specifications, a bigger and heavier machine: 212 mm more depth and 127 kg more weight. Pressing force, specific pressing pressure, bale size, maximum bale weight, loading aperture and drive power are identical. HSM does not publish a feature-by-feature comparison of the two, so if the difference is material to your decision we will ask HSM to confirm it in writing rather than guess for you.
How tall does my building need to be?
The machine is 2985 mm high and you need working clearance above it, so plan on at least 3.3 m of usable height in the bay. A nominal 3 m industrial ceiling with services running below it will not take this press. This is the most common reason a 1160 order changes to an 825 during the site survey, so measure the actual clear height under the lowest obstruction, not the slab-to-slab figure.
Is wire strapping essential, or can I use tape?
Wire is the standard fitment and it is the right choice for a 550 kg cardboard bale, which springs back hard. HSM offers a tape station as an option if polyester strapping suits your operation better, for instance because you already stock it for other machines. The smaller V-Press 820 and 825 models use polyester tape as standard because their bales are less than half the weight.
Can one operator run it safely?
Loading and pressing, yes. Strapping and ejecting a 550 kg bale is not a one-person manual task and is not meant to be: bales come out onto a pallet or the floor and are moved by forklift. Make sure the bay has clear approach for a truck and that operators are trained on the door interlock sequence before the machine is put into service.
What can I put in it besides cardboard?
HSM rates the 1160 plus for cardboard, plastic film and mixed paper. It is not a general waste press: no metal, no wood, no wet or contaminated material, and nothing that a mill would reject. Keeping streams separate matters commercially as well as mechanically, because a mixed bale is graded and paid at the value of its worst component.
