HSM V-Press 820 Plus Vertical Baling Press - HSM6143

The HSM V-Press 820 Plus (article 6143213) is a vertical baling press that compacts cardboard, plastic film, mixed paper and punch waste at 178 kN into bales of up to 551 lb (250 kg), tied by hand with polyester tape. Its loading opening of 47.05 x 21.97 in (1195 x 558 mm) is the tallest among HSM's smaller 8-series presses. It is aimed at stores, goods-in departments and converting shops whose waste is bulky and awkward rather than dense.

Why the 820 Plus's tall opening suits bulky packaging

On a manually fed baler, the slowest part of the job is rarely the press stroke. It is the moment an operator has to stop and cut a half-collapsed carton down because it will not go through the door. The 820 Plus gives that operator 558 mm of opening height, against 530 mm on the standard 825 Plus. Behind the door the chamber is also taller, building a bale up to 1000 mm high instead of the 825's 700 mm.

That geometry favors light, springy waste: loose cartons, film and shredded board that take up a lot of volume for their weight. The trade-off is pressing force. At 178 kN this press works more gently than the 250 kN 825 models, so a full bale tops out at 250 kg rather than 280 kg.

Punch waste and converting residue

HSM lists punch waste and offcut residue among the approved materials for this model, which sets it apart from the 825 presses. That is the skeleton of board or film left after die-cutting, a common headache for print finishers and carton makers. The same press handles cardboard, plastic film and mixed paper from the rest of the building.

Day-to-day operation and installation

Tying is manual, using four-fold continuous polyester tape. Tape needs no crimping tool but is not included, so order a starting supply. A finished bale is released through a hand-wheel door lock and ejected by hand,, with no powered ejector to maintain. Plan on a pallet truck to move a bale of this weight.

The press stands 98.39 in (2499 mm) tall and weighs 2,866 lb (1300 kg), so it is a fixed installation, though most industrial units take it without structural work. It needs a 480 V / 60 Hz three-phase supply; HSM quotes the 400 V / 50 Hz European equivalent at 4 kW because of the different frequency, not a smaller motor.

• V-Press 825 Plus: 250 kN into a lower chamber for a denser 280 kg bale, 129 mm shorter and 230 kg lighter, but with a 530 mm opening that makes bulky cartons harder to load.
• V-Press 825 Plus Pro: the same 250 kN and 280 kg bale as the 825 Plus, built on a heavier frame.
• V-Press 1160 eco: 594 kN and a 550 kg bale for sites where bale grade affects resale value, but it needs 486 mm more height than the 820 Plus.

Who should choose the 820 Plus

It fits a supermarket or large convenience store, a hospital receiving dock, a light manufacturer unpacking components, or a converter with die-cut waste: places with steady, bulky volume but nowhere near the tonnage that justifies a large mill-bale press. Look elsewhere if you want the heaviest bale from the lowest machine (the 825 family) or if your cardboard volume is high enough that a heavier bale would earn a better price from your recycler.
