Why choose this over the 5.8 mm strip-cut version?
Because the security gain is almost free. Both machines share the same cutting-head width, the same 6.2 kW drive and the same press. The strip-cut model does 104 sheets a pass at P-2; this one does 96 at P-3. Eight sheets is inside the run-to-run variation you will see between paper types, whereas the difference between a 5.8 mm strip and a 290 mm2 particle is a real change in how recoverable the document is.
How large are the bales and how do I move them?
600 x 500 x 400 mm, weighing up to 35 kg. That is deliberately at the top end of what two people can handle without lifting equipment, and it stacks on a standard pallet. Compare the SP 5080, which produces 80 kg bales that need a pallet truck or forklift. If your loading area has no mechanical handling, the 4040's smaller bale is an advantage rather than a limitation.
Will it take material straight from collection consoles?
Yes, within reason. HSM lists crumpled paper, staples and paper clips as shreddable, so material does not need flattening or de-stapling, and the conveyor takes it across a 428 mm intake. What you should still pull out are ring binders, lever-arch mechanisms and metal clamps, along with anything that is not on HSM's materials list.
What are the site requirements?
Allow 1117 x 2175 x 1981 mm plus clearance at the front to eject bales and at the intake to load. The height is usually the constraint: at 1981 mm this will not fit under a low suspended ceiling or in a basement with services running below the slab. Machine weight is 737 kg, so check the floor and the delivery route.
Is it noisy enough to need a separate room?
HSM does not publish a dB(A) figure for the SP 4040 V, so we are not going to quote one. What we can say is that it combines an industrial cutting head with a hydraulic press, and machines of this class are normally installed in a dedicated destruction or waste-handling area rather than in occupied office space. Plan on that.
