Description

This is the compliance version of HSM's compact shredder-baler: a 3.9 × 40 mm particle cut rated DIN 66399 P-4, feeding a KP 40 V vertical press. P-4 is the level most privacy programmes name for personal data, and this is the smallest HSM machine that reaches it while still baling its own output. The price of the finer cut is throughput: 80 sheets a pass, against 96 for the P-3 version and 104 for the strip-cut model.

What's in the Box

This is a palletised industrial installation rather than a boxed product, and HSM does not publish a shipping contents list for it. Freight, rigging into position, the three-phase electrical connection and any strapping consumables for tying finished bales are separate from the machine price. Confirm all four when you order.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the SP 4040 V to buy when personal data is involved and you also want baled output: medical practices and clinics, HR and payroll functions, financial advisers, legal firms handling closed case files, and any organisation whose client contracts specify P-4. The E-3 / O-3 rating also makes it the only variant in this family we would recommend for routine optical media and card destruction.

It is not the machine for bulk clearance. At 80 sheets a pass it is the slowest of the three SP 4040 V variants, and if your material is genuinely non-sensitive you are paying a throughput penalty for nothing — the 5.8 mm strip-cut version or the 5.8 × 50 mm P-3 will clear the same boxes faster.

If your policy asks for P-5 rather than P-4, no SP 4040 V will do it: the family stops at P-4. The nearest option that bales at P-5 is the SP 5080 at 1.9 × 15 mm, which is a 1480 kg machine and a substantially larger installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is P-4 the right level for personal or patient data?

It is the level most privacy programmes and destruction policies have settled on for personal data, and the one auditors expect to see. No US privacy law names a DIN 66399 level directly; they require destruction that makes the information practicably unreadable, and a 156 mm2 particle satisfies that comfortably. If a specific client contract names P-5, this machine will not meet it and you should look at the SP 5080 range.

How much slower is it than the P-3 version?

80 sheets a pass against 96, so roughly 17 percent. Both use the same 6.2 kW drive and the same press, and both are rated for the same materials list, so the difference is purely the cutting head. In day-to-day use the more noticeable constraint is usually how fast someone can feed the 428 mm intake and how often the bale chamber is cycled, not the per-pass figure.

Can it destroy CDs, DVDs and credit cards to a rated standard?

Yes, and this is the only SP 4040 V variant we would specify for that. It carries O-3 for optical media, E-3 for electronic data carriers, F-1 for film and T-4 for hard-copy microform alongside P-4 for paper. The strip-cut and P-3 versions of the same machine only reach E-2 / O-2, which is a much coarser destruction of the same media.

What does the 44 kN press produce, and how often do I empty it?

Bales of 600 x 500 x 400 mm weighing up to 35 kg. Cycle frequency depends entirely on your material and how well it settles, and HSM does not publish a bales-per-hour figure, so we will not estimate one. The useful planning number is the bale weight: 35 kg is what two people can move without a pallet truck, which is the main practical reason to choose this machine over the larger SP 5080.

What does it need in terms of power and space?

208 V / 60 Hz three-phase for the North American build; HSM's European datasheet for the equivalent EU article lists 400 V / 50 Hz. It is not a single-phase machine and the connection is a separate cost from the machine. Physically, allow 1117 x 2175 x 1981 mm, headroom for the 1981 mm height, front clearance for bale ejection, and a floor and delivery route that will take 737 kg.
