The HSM Powerline SP 4040 V with the 5/32 x 1 9/16 in (3.9 x 40 mm) head is a compact industrial shredder-baler rated DIN 66399 P-4, the level most data-protection policies set for personal information. It shreds 80 sheets per pass and its KP 40 V press bales the particles at 44 kN into blocks of up to 77 lb (35 kg). DIN 66399 limits a P-4 particle to 160 mm². The 3.9 x 40 mm piece from this head measures 156 mm², so it qualifies with little room to spare, which is typical for this cut. It is the smallest HSM shredder-baler that reaches P-4; the SP 4040 V family stops there, so a P-5 requirement means stepping up to the SP 5080.

The extra ratings matter for mixed streams. O-3 covers optical discs, E-3 covers electronic data carriers such as cards, F-1 covers film and T-4 covers microform. The P-2 and P-3 heads on the same chassis only reach E-2 and O-2, so this is the variant to choose when CDs, DVDs and credit cards are destroyed alongside paper.

The throughput trade-off

A finer cut means more cutting work per sheet. With the same 6.2 kW motor as its siblings, this head accepts 80 sheets a pass rather than 96 (P-3) or 104 (strip cut). For a department feeding the conveyor from collection consoles that is rarely the bottleneck; feeding speed and the press cycle usually set the pace. The induction-hardened steel rollers accept staples, paper clips and crumpled paper, so nobody has to pre-sort.

It is over-specified for anonymous bulk paper, where the P-3 or strip head will clear boxes faster, and under-specified if a contract asks for P-5. Budget separately for freight, positioning, the three-phase connection and bale-tying supplies.
