HSM FP 3000 Barrel Press for Efficient Barrel Compressing and Waste Management Solutions

The HSM FP 3000 is a vertical barrel press built for one job: crushing empty metal drums down to a fraction of their volume so that they can be stored, transported and recycled economically. It develops 270 kN of pressing force, completes a cycle in 33 seconds, and reduces barrel volume by up to 95%.

Empty drums are one of the worst items in any industrial waste stream. They are bulky, they nest badly, they take up yard space, and hauliers charge for the volume rather than the weight. A press that turns a 200 litre drum into a disc changes the collection economics entirely — and because the FP 3000 has a low installation height and a small footprint for its class, it can go where the drums already are rather than requiring a dedicated bay.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the FP 3000 if empty drums accumulate on your site faster than they leave it. Chemical and coatings manufacturers, food processing plants, engineering works using bulk oils and lubricants, waste management contractors, and any operation that receives raw material in 200 litre drums all reach the same point: the drum store grows, the yard fills, and collection costs are being paid on air. A 33 second cycle and a 1092 mm loading aperture make this a machine one person can work through a pallet of drums with.

Do not buy it for anything other than barrels. It is a barrel press, not a general baler. Cardboard, paper and film belong in a horizontal baling press such as the HSM HL 7009, and PET bottles and beverage cans belong in a crusher such as the HSM Crusher 1049 SA or the CP 4988 if you need bales.

Be careful, too, about what was in the drums. HSM specifies the FP 3000 for light metal and rolled hoop barrels, and the spiked ram and drainage tray are designed for residue rather than for contents. Drums that held hazardous, flammable or pressurised material are governed by disposal rules that a press does not override, and crushing them may not be permitted on your site at all. Check your waste licence and your safety case before assuming this machine solves that problem.

Finally, if your drum volume is a handful a month, this is not a sound purchase. A 270 kN press is a capital item that earns its place when drums arrive by the pallet.
