HSM CP 4988 Cursher and Baler Combinatio for PET Beverage and Aluminium Cans

The HSM CP 4988 is a combined crusher and baler for PET beverage bottles and aluminum or steel cans. It processes 4,000 one-liter bottles an hour, reduces volume by up to 90% in a single cycle and turns out bales of up to 220 lb (100 kg) that the operator ties with polyester strap. It is aimed at bottling plants, stadiums and arenas, deposit-return operators and waste contractors whose beverage containers are worth more to a recycler as bales than as loose material.

Crushing and baling in one machine

A crusher on its own flattens containers but leaves them loose in a bin; a baler on its own needs material that is already flat. The CP 4988 does both in sequence, so bottles and cans go in as delivered and leave as a compact, stackable bale. That removes a second machine, a second power connection and the handling step between the two. HSM's figure of up to 90% reduction comes from compressing the crushed material, not just flattening it.

Strapping and bale handling

Each bale is tied with three straps by hand, using continuous polyester strap; HSM specifies its WG 65 strapping tape. Polyester suits a plastics stream because it will not contaminate PET the way wire would, and it is easier to handle. Since strapping is manual, someone must be present at the end of each bale. At up to 100 kg, bales can be moved on a pallet with a pallet truck rather than a forklift, and they stack in storage between collections. Many recyclers want PET and cans baled separately.

HSM's public data for this model gives the width and height but not machine depth, motor rating, voltage, machine weight, noise level or bale dimensions, so those are left out here rather than estimated. CP 4988 or the Crusher 1049 SA?

The HSM Crusher 1049 SA crushes bottles and cans into a 290 litre container at 2,400 bottles an hour. It costs less and takes far less room, and suits sites that simply want fewer bin collections. The CP 4988 is worth its price when your recycler pays more for baled material or volumes run into thousands of bottles an hour. Cardboard, paper and film belong in a horizontal baler such as the HL 7009, and metal drums in the FP 3000 barrel press.

Is the CP 4988 right for you?

Yes, if you handle beverage containers in real volume and the output has a buyer. No, if you only need less volume in the bin, if the stream includes glass, aerosols or other pressurized containers, or if nobody will be on hand to strap each bale.
