Is the motor really 10.5 kW as the product title says?
Not exactly, and we would rather correct it than repeat it. HSM's own horizontal baling press technical data gives the HL 7009 drive as 9.2 kW plus a 1.5 kW secondary motor on a 3 x 400 V / 50 Hz supply, which totals 10.7 kW rather than 10.5 kW. The difference is small but it is the sort of figure an electrical contractor sizes a supply from, so use the manufacturer's 9.2 + 1.5 kW split when you plan the installation.
What size and weight are the bales?
1100 x 1100 x 1200 mm (W x H x L), weighing up to 600 kg depending on material and moisture. Cardboard bales at the top of that range; loose mixed paper and film come in lighter. Confirm the format against your recycler's specification before ordering, because bale dimensions and weight are usually written into an offtake agreement and a channel press cannot be adjusted to a different bale size after installation.
How are the bales tied?
With Quicklink baling wire in 2.45 x 4400 mm lengths. Wire is the standard for paper and cardboard because mills are set up to strip and recover it during pulping, unlike polyester strap. Wire is a consumable and is not supplied with the machine, so build it into the running cost alongside power and servicing. The CP 4988 PET machine uses polyester strap instead, for the opposite reason — wire would contaminate a plastics stream.
Can it bale plastic film as well as cardboard?
Yes. HSM specifies the HL 7009 for mixed paper, cardboard and plastic film, so a single machine can serve all three streams. In practice you would bale them separately rather than mixed, because a clean single-material bale is worth substantially more than a contaminated one, and most recyclers will reject or downgrade mixed bales.
Why is a horizontal press better than a vertical baler here?
Labour, mainly. A vertical baler is loaded, compressed and emptied by an operator for every single bale, so someone has to be present throughout. A horizontal channel press is fed continuously and ejects bales at the far end, and HSM offers bevelled hoppers, lifting and tilting systems and automatic filling for this chassis, so it can be fed by a conveyor or a tipping unit. If your cardboard arrives all day rather than in batches, that is where the saving is.
What are the installation requirements?
A three-phase supply, a prepared floor able to carry approximately 7,400 kg, feed access at one end and bale removal space at the other. We have not printed a single overall dimension on this page because HSM publishes different footprints for different HL 7009 feed configurations, and quoting one number would mislead your layout planning. Tell us which hopper or filling option you want and we will get the matching installation drawing from HSM.
