What thickness of cardboard will the C400 take?
One layer at a time, up to 10 mm of infeed height. In practice that means single-wall carton stock fed as a flat opened-out panel. Double-wall board and folded box sections stacked two or three deep will jam or stall it. If your waste stream is mostly heavy double-wall cartons, the floor-standing ProfiPack P425 is built for it: it accepts up to three layers and 20 mm.
Does it need special wiring?
No. The C400 draws 855 W at 110-120 V / 60 Hz, single phase, so it plugs into an ordinary wall outlet. That is one of the main reasons to choose it over the larger ProfiPack machines, two of which are three-phase 208 V and need an electrician. Just make sure the bench will carry 46.6 kg and that there is somewhere for the finished mat to fall.
How much packing material does 50 kg an hour actually give me?
More than one packer can use. 50 kg/h is HSM's rated throughput, and cardboard mat is bulky: an hour's output fills a large cage. For a bench dispatching tens of parcels a day, the realistic constraint is not the machine's rate but how quickly a person can open out and feed waste cartons one layer at a time. Most single-station users run the machine in short bursts as cardboard accumulates.
Is it loud?
Reasonably. HSM rates it at approximately 68 to 70 dB(A), which is louder than the larger P425 at 60 to 62 dB(A) because the C400 is a light benchtop chassis with less mass to damp the cutting rollers. It is fine in a stockroom or a dispatch bay, less so on a desk next to someone taking phone calls. Ear protection is not required, but siting matters.
Can I connect a dust extractor to it?
No. HSM offers the DE 1-8 dust extraction system with an adapter set for the P425 and the ecoChip, but there is no equivalent adapter for the C400. Cardboard perforation does produce some dust and fibre, so if you are working in a clean environment or near open stock, that is a genuine argument for stepping up to the P425 instead.
