Description

The ProfiPack C400 turns the cardboard you already throw away into packing material. It is a benchtop machine: 47 kg, 610 mm wide, running from an ordinary 115 V outlet, and it perforates and cuts a sheet of used cardboard in one pass so the sheet opens out into a flexible mat that wraps and cushions goods in a carton.

The single thing that defines it against the rest of the ProfiPack range is that it takes one layer at a time, up to 10 mm thick. That is single-wall carton stock. If your waste is double-wall, or if you are feeding folded boxes without breaking them down, this is the wrong machine and the floor-standing P425 is the right one.

What's in the Box

The machine only. HSM does not publish a bundled accessory list for the C400, and unlike the larger ProfiPack models there is no dust-extraction adapter option for it. If you want the output collected rather than falling onto the bench, plan a bin or a table cut-out yourself.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This suits a single dispatch bench in a shop, a laboratory, a small e-commerce operation or a repair depot — anywhere that packs tens of parcels a day, generates its own carton waste and currently buys bubble wrap or paper void fill. The economics are straightforward: 50 kg an hour of free cushioning is more than a one-person packing station will ever use, and the machine needs no installation beyond a socket and a bench that will carry 47 kg.

It is not the machine for a warehouse. One layer at a time means an operator has to open out and separate cardboard by hand before it goes in, and that becomes the bottleneck long before the motor does. If you are processing double-wall cartons, feeding continuously, or want more than one packing station supplied, move up to the ProfiPack P425, which takes up to three layers and 20 mm, runs at 80 kg/h and can be connected to dust extraction.

It is also the wrong machine if you want loose fill rather than mats. The C400 makes a flat perforated sheet for wrapping and layering; if what you need is chips to pour into voids around an irregular item, that is the ProfiPack ecoChip, which shreds cardboard into 10.5 mm-wide chips instead.

What thickness of cardboard will the C400 take?

One layer at a time, up to 10 mm of infeed height. In practice that means single-wall carton stock fed as a flat opened-out panel. Double-wall board and folded box sections stacked two or three deep will jam or stall it. If your waste stream is mostly heavy double-wall cartons, the floor-standing ProfiPack P425 is built for it: it accepts up to three layers and 20 mm.

Does it need special wiring?

No. The C400 draws 855 W at 110-120 V / 60 Hz, single phase, so it plugs into an ordinary wall outlet. That is one of the main reasons to choose it over the larger ProfiPack machines, two of which are three-phase 208 V and need an electrician. Just make sure the bench will carry 46.6 kg and that there is somewhere for the finished mat to fall.

How much packing material does 50 kg an hour actually give me?

More than one packer can use. 50 kg/h is HSM's rated throughput, and cardboard mat is bulky: an hour's output fills a large cage. For a bench dispatching tens of parcels a day, the realistic constraint is not the machine's rate but how quickly a person can open out and feed waste cartons one layer at a time. Most single-station users run the machine in short bursts as cardboard accumulates.

Is it loud?

Reasonably. HSM rates it at approximately 68 to 70 dB(A), which is louder than the larger P425 at 60 to 62 dB(A) because the C400 is a light benchtop chassis with less mass to damp the cutting rollers. It is fine in a stockroom or a dispatch bay, less so on a desk next to someone taking phone calls. Ear protection is not required, but siting matters.

Can I connect a dust extractor to it?

No. HSM offers the DE 1-8 dust extraction system with an adapter set for the P425 and the ecoChip, but there is no equivalent adapter for the C400. Cardboard perforation does produce some dust and fibre, so if you are working in a clean environment or near open stock, that is a genuine argument for stepping up to the P425 instead.
