Description

The Momentum M20-32 is the departmental micro-cut machine in ACCO's Momentum line: a 12-inch throat, a 32-gallon bin and twenty sheets a pass at DIN 66399 P-5.

The throat is the specification worth paying attention to. At 12 inches it takes ledger and A3 flat, which the 9-inch models in the range cannot, and it lets a whole handful of mixed paper go in without being squared up first. Combined with the largest bin ACCO fits to a Momentum cabinet, that is what makes this a machine a floor can share rather than a team.

Key Features

  • P-5 micro-cut at approximately 1.98 x 15.08 mm, just inside the 30 mm² DIN 66399 limit.
  • Twelve-inch throat. Ledger, A3, legal and letter all feed unfolded, and a full handful goes in without being aligned.
  • Twenty sheets per pass on 20 lb paper — a high figure for a P-5 machine.
  • 32-gallon bin on castors, the largest in the Momentum range.
  • Shreds CDs, DVDs, credit cards, paper clips, staples and junk mail, so a whole floor's mixed waste can go in one machine.
  • Active Sensing Anti-Jam Technology, which stops an overload before it becomes a jam.
  • Runs continuously until the bin is full rather than working to an on/off duty cycle.
  • TAA compliant, two-year warranty, 132.3 lb on wheels.

ACCO describes the Momentum range as ultra-quiet but publishes no decibel figure for it, so we have left that row out rather than repeat an unsourced number. Motor wattage is not published either. ACCO's specification table on this model reads P-4 while its product title and range comparison chart both read P-5; the published particle geometry of roughly 1.98 x 15.08 mm is just under 30 mm², which is P-5, so that is what we list.

What's in the Box

Shredder on its 32-gallon castered bin, with power cord and operating instructions. Bags and oil are separate. ACCO does not name a bag part for the 32-gallon Momentum bin; its 30-gallon bag, part 1765015, is the closest published size but ACCO does not list this model against it, so confirm before ordering a case. Shredder oil is part 1760049.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the M20-32 for a department that works to P-5 and generates real volume — twenty sheets a pass, a 12-inch throat and 32 gallons of capacity make it a machine people can walk up to with an armful. It is also the sensible choice if your paper is not all letter size: ledger drawings, A3 reports and oversized forms feed flat here and will not on the 9-inch models.

Do not buy it for a small office. It weighs 132 lb, stands over three feet tall and carries a bin most small teams would never fill; the M12-12 is the same P-5 cut in a 12-gallon cabinet and is the honest recommendation for three or four people. Do not buy it if you want maximum throughput rather than maximum security — the X26-32 is the identical cabinet at P-4 and takes 26 sheets a pass. And if the requirement is P-6 or P-7, no Momentum model reaches it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will ledger or A3 paper fit?

Yes. The 12-inch throat takes ledger (11 x 17 in) and A3 fed short edge first, which the 9-inch Momentum models cannot. If your department produces drawings, spreadsheets printed wide or oversized forms, that is a strong reason to choose this model over the M12-12.

Can it shred CDs and DVDs?

Yes, along with credit cards, paper clips, staples and unopened junk mail. Feed discs one at a time through the throat rather than dropping a stack in. What it will not take is laminated pouches, adhesive labels, continuous form paper or cardboard — those damage cutting heads and are not covered.

What is the duty cycle?

ACCO rates the Momentum range to run continuously until the waste bin is full rather than to a fixed on/off cycle. On a 32-gallon bin that is a substantial amount of shredding before anything has to stop. It is still worth letting the machine rest if it has been working hard for a long stretch.

How often will the 32-gallon bin need emptying?

Roughly every 900 to 1,200 sheets, though it depends heavily on paper type and how the shred settles. Micro-cut waste is fine and compacts better than cross-cut. For a floor of a dozen or so people at normal volumes, weekly is a reasonable expectation.

What bags fit it?

This is a genuine gap and we would rather say so. ACCO does not publish a bag part number against the 32-gallon Momentum bin. Its nearest listed size is the 30-gallon bag, part 1765015, which is specified for the CHS10-30, CM15-30 and the large AutoFeed+ cabinets but not for this one. Ask us to confirm the fit before you order a case rather than assume it.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a 1 mm x 5 mm particle and requires the specific model to be on the NSA Evaluated Products List. A P-5 machine at roughly 2 x 15 mm satisfies neither test. If a specification says NSA, no Momentum shredder will meet it.

Is it hard to move once it is in place?

It weighs 132 lb and rolls on castors, so one person can reposition it on a hard floor and two should handle it on carpet or over a threshold. Getting it into the building is the harder part — check your lift and door widths against the 40.5-inch height before delivery day.
