GBC Momentum Paper Shredder, X22-23, Super Cross-Cut, P-4, Anti-Jam, 22 Sheets

The GBC Momentum X22-23 is a mid-size P-4 super cross-cut shredder that takes 22 sheets of 20 lb paper per pass and fills a 23-gallon bin on castors. It cuts to particles of about 5/32 x 1 3/8 in (4 x 35 mm) and also accepts CDs, credit cards, staples and junk mail. It is the Momentum to consider when a small department shares one shredder and a 12-gallon bin would need emptying too often.

The X22-23's real upgrade is the bin

Step up from the X18-12 and you gain four sheets per pass, but the bigger change is the container: 23 gallons instead of 12. On a machine many people share, that capacity decides how often someone has to stop work and empty it, and how often the shredder sits full and unused. With a duty rating that lets it keep running until the bin fills, the X22-23 can absorb a busy week of departmental paper.

The 9-inch throat takes letter, legal and A4 flat. Ledger and A3 will not fit; those need the 12-inch X26-32.

How Active Sensing Anti-Jam behaves day to day

Rather than letting an oversized stack reach the cutters and then reversing it out, the X22-23 measures the thickness at the throat and simply declines to feed a load that is too thick. The user removes a few sheets and carries on; there is no wedged paper to pull out of the head. Auto sleep powers the machine down between users.

P-4 is the level usually specified for confidential business records such as contracts, invoices and personnel letters. For upkeep, ACCO shredder oil is part 1760049. ACCO's published bag sizes jump from 13-19 gallons (part 1765010) to 30 gallons (part 1765015) and neither lists the X22-23, so ask us before ordering liners.

Who the X22-23 is for

It fits a department of several people who want one machine for paper, cards and discs, emptied weekly rather than daily. It is more than a two-person room needs, it will not take ledger or A3, and teams bound by a P-5 policy should choose a micro-cut Momentum instead.
