The Momentum M12-12 is the high-security member of the small Momentum cabinet: a 12-gallon bin on wheels, a 9-inch throat and a micro-cut head that produces roughly 1.98 x 15.08 mm particles at DIN 66399 P-5.

Its sibling the X18-12 shares the same cabinet, the same bin and the same footprint and takes eighteen sheets a pass instead of twelve. The six sheets you give up are the price of the finer cut. That is the whole decision between them, and it should be settled by what your destruction policy says rather than by the sheet count on the box.

Specifications

ACCO describes the Momentum range as ultra-quiet but does not publish a decibel figure for any model in it, so we have not printed one. ACCO's own web listing for this model is internally inconsistent: the product title says P-5 while the specification table says P-4. The published particle geometry of roughly 1.98 x 15.08 mm works out at just under 30 mm², which is P-5 under DIN 66399, and the range comparison chart also shows P-5, so P-5 is what we have published.

What's in the Box

Shredder on its 12-gallon castered bin, with power cord and operating instructions. Bags and oil are ordered separately; ACCO's shredder oil is part 1760049. ACCO does not publish a bag part number against the 12-gallon Momentum bin, so we have not guessed one — ask us before ordering.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the M12-12 for a small team that works to a P-5 policy and needs one machine to handle everything that crosses a desk: paper, expired cards, old discs and the unopened junk mail that arrives with names on it. Twelve sheets a pass is modest, but the machine will keep going until the bin fills rather than stopping for a cool-down, which for steady low-volume work is more useful than a high headline number.

Do not buy it if throughput is the point. The X18-12 is the same cabinet at eighteen sheets a pass and P-4, and if nobody has specified a security level in writing it is the better-value machine. Do not buy it if the bin is the constraint either — the M20-32 is the same P-5 cut with a 12-inch throat, twenty sheets a pass and a 32-gallon bin, and it is the right answer for a department rather than a team. Finally, if your material needs P-6 or P-7, this is not that machine and no Momentum model is.
