Description

The Momentum X20-07 is the deskside member of ACCO's Momentum line, and it is an unusual machine: it takes twenty sheets a pass and runs for four hours, on a cabinet small enough to stand beside a desk with a 7-gallon bin.

That combination is the reason to buy it. Most shredders with a 7-gallon bin are personal machines rated for six or eight sheets and a few minutes of running. The X20-07 has a commercial-grade duty cycle in a personal-sized body. The trade-off is the bin: at twenty sheets a pass you will fill seven gallons quickly, and this machine is designed to be emptied often rather than left alone.

Key Features

  • 240-minute duty cycle. Four hours of running from a deskside cabinet, which is what separates this from an ordinary personal shredder.
  • Twenty sheets per pass on 20 lb paper at DIN 66399 P-4.
  • Super cross-cut head at approximately 5/32 x 1 3/8 in (about 4 x 35 mm, roughly 138 mm²), inside the 160 mm² the P-4 class permits.
  • Active Sensing Anti-Jam Technology, which reads the stack as it enters and blocks an overload before the cutters engage.
  • Nine-inch throat for letter, legal and A4 fed flat.
  • Seven-gallon bin in a cabinet 23 inches tall and 12.6 inches wide.
  • Auto sleep mode to cut standby draw.
  • TAA compliant, 37.5 lb, two-year warranty.

Read the materials list carefully if you are comparing this against its larger siblings. ACCO rates the X20-07 for paper, paper clips, staples and unopened junk mail, but does not list credit cards or CDs against this model, where it does list both for the X18-12, X22-23 and X26-32. That is a real difference and not an omission on our part — if expired cards and old discs are part of what you need destroyed, this is the wrong model in the range.

ACCO does not publish a decibel rating or a motor wattage for any Momentum model, describing the range only as ultra-quiet, so those rows are omitted rather than filled with an unsourced number. Sheet capacity is quoted on 20 lb paper, which is ACCO's stated basis for this range.

What's in the Box

Shredder with 7-gallon pull-out bin, power cord and operating instructions. Bags are separate: ACCO's 6-8 gallon plastic shredder bag, part 1765016, names the Momentum X20-07 on its compatibility list. Shredder oil is part 1760049.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the X20-07 for one person or a small shared corner where the paper is ordinary business correspondence and the machine will be used in bursts through the day. The four-hour duty cycle means it will not stop on you mid-session, and twenty sheets a pass means nobody feeds it a page at a time. For a solicitor's room, an accounts desk or a practice office, it is well matched.

Do not buy it if the bin will be the problem. Seven gallons of cross-cut waste is roughly 150 to 250 sheets, and a machine capable of twenty sheets a pass can fill that in a few minutes of concentrated work; the X18-12 carries 12 gallons and the X22-23 carries 23. Do not buy it if you need to destroy cards or optical media — ACCO does not rate this model for either, though its larger siblings are rated for both. And if a policy names P-5, the M12-12 is the smallest micro-cut machine in the range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it shred credit cards or CDs?

No. ACCO rates the X20-07 for paper, paper clips, staples and unopened junk mail only. Credit cards and optical media are listed for the larger Momentum models — the X18-12, X22-23, X26-32, M12-12 and M20-32 — but not for this one. Feeding a rigid card or a disc to a machine that is not rated for it risks the cutting head and is not covered by the warranty.

Can it shred staples?

Yes, and paper clips. That covers most of what arrives clipped or stapled in ordinary office post, so stapled sets can go in without being taken apart. It will not take adhesive labels, laminated pouches, continuous form paper or cardboard.

What is the duty cycle?

Two hundred and forty minutes, which is four hours. That is an unusually long rating for a machine this size and is the main reason to choose it over a conventional personal shredder. In practice the limiting factor will be the 7-gallon bin long before the motor gets warm.

How often will the 7-gallon bin need emptying?

Often. Cross-cut waste is bulky, and seven gallons holds somewhere in the region of 150 to 250 sheets depending on paper type and how the shred settles. If you are clearing a filing drawer rather than a day's post, expect to empty it several times. That is the compromise for a cabinet this compact.

Will legal paper fit?

Yes. The throat is 9 inches wide, so US legal at 8.5 inches and A4 at 8.27 inches both feed unfolded. Ledger and A3 will not; the 12-inch throat models in this range are the X26-32 and M20-32.

What bags fit it?

ACCO part 1765016, the 6-8 gallon plastic shredder bag, sold 100 to a box. ACCO names the Momentum X20-07 explicitly on that part's compatibility list, alongside several ShredMaster models and the AutoFeed+ 60X.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires a 1 mm x 5 mm particle and requires the specific model to appear on the NSA Evaluated Products List. This is a P-4 machine at roughly 4 x 35 mm and is not listed. TAA compliance, which this machine does have, is a procurement rule about country of origin and has nothing to do with security level.
