GBC AutoFeed+ Office Shredder, 600M, Micro-Cut, 600 Sheets

The GBC AutoFeed+ 600M is a department-size auto-feed shredder that loads 600 sheets and cuts them to DIN 66399 P-5 micro-cut particles of 3/32 x 5/8 in (2 x 15 mm), with four hours of run time and a 29-gallon bin. It is the high-capacity choice for HR, clinical, finance or legal teams whose policy specifies P-5.

P-5 security at full department capacity

On most shredder ranges, a finer cut means fewer sheets per pass and shorter running. The 600M is unusual. Set it beside the AutoFeed+ 600X and the hopper, run time, bin and 55 dB rating are all the same; the only capacity you give up is on the manual slot, which takes 10 sheets rather than 15. In exchange, each particle is 30 mm2 instead of about 120 mm2, right on the P-5 limit and far inside the 160 mm2 that P-4 permits. That is the level most often written into policies covering personnel files, patient records and financial account data.

Running and maintaining the 600M

A full ream and then some goes into the hopper with staples and paper clips left in. Four hours of running lets a team shred in the morning and again in the afternoon without anyone tracking the motor. Credit cards, creased sheets and odd items go through the 9.1 in manual slot. Keep anything outside the accepted list (paper, staples, paper clips and credit cards) away from a P-5 head; its finer cutters are less forgiving than a P-4 set.

Finer particles also make more dust, so oil the cutters regularly with GBC oil part 1760049 rather than a household lubricant. For liners, part 1765015, a 30-gallon bag packed 25 per box, lists the 600M by name. The 21 x 23 x 38 in cabinet needs room in front for the bin to roll out.

600M specifications

Should you pick the 600M, 600X or 750M?

• AutoFeed+ 600X: the same 600-sheet cabinet at P-4, with a 15-sheet manual slot. Fine for most ordinary business records.
• AutoFeed+ 750M: P-5 with a 750-sheet hopper and a 37-gallon bin, but rated louder at 62 dB.
• AutoFeed+ 300M: P-5 with 300 sheets, a 16-gallon bin and a 60-minute run time, for a smaller team.

Who should specify the 600M

Choose it when P-5 is written into your policy and a whole department will feed it. If nobody has asked for P-5, the 600X costs less and does the same work. It is not continuous duty for an all-day shift, it is not NSA listed, and anything beyond P-5 needs dedicated high-security equipment.
