Description

The AutoFeed+ 300X is the longest-running machine in the small-cabinet half of the range: sixty minutes of continuous operation against thirty on the 230X, from the same 17 by 19 inch footprint and the same 16-gallon bin.

That hour is the specification to buy this model for. The hopper holds 300 sheets, but the reason it can clear them in one uninterrupted session is the doubled run time. On the 230X a big clear-out can hit the thermal limit before the hopper empties; on the 300X it does not.

Key Features

  • 300-sheet locking hopper — over half a ream in one load.
  • Sixty-minute run time, double the 230X and the longest of the small-cabinet AutoFeed+ models.
  • DIN 66399 P-4 at 5/32 x 1 3/16 in (about 4 x 30 mm, roughly 120 mm² per particle).
  • Ten-sheet manual feed slot for singles, cards and creased sheets.
  • 16-gallon pull-out bin in a 17 x 19 x 29 in cabinet.
  • Accepts staples and paper clips from the hopper.
  • 55 dB — no penalty in noise for the longer duty.
  • Two-year warranty.

A note on the word micro-cut. ACCO labels the whole AutoFeed+ range micro-cut while rating the X models P-4 and the M models P-5. Under DIN 66399 a particle of roughly 4 x 30 mm belongs to the cross-cut classes; micro-cut begins at P-5, where the particle must be 30 mm² or smaller. We classify by the standard rather than the marketing term, so this machine files under cross-cut and P-4. If a policy names micro-cut and means P-5, an M model is the one that satisfies it.

ACCO does not publish a basis weight behind the auto-feed and manual-feed sheet ratings, nor a motor wattage or shipping weight for this model, so those rows are omitted rather than estimated. Ratings in this category are normally quoted on paper lighter than US 20 lb bond, so treat the hopper figure as a best case.

What's in the Box

Shredder with auto-feed hopper, 16-gallon pull-out bin and power cord. Bags are separate: ACCO names part 1765010, its 13-19 gallon plastic shredder bag, 25 to a box, specifically for the 300X and 300M. Shredder oil is part 1760049.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the 300X if a small department clears paper in scheduled batches — end of month, end of matter, end of audit — and you want the whole batch gone in one session without babysitting. The hour of run time and the 300-sheet hopper are matched to each other, which is not true of every model in the range, and the named bag part makes consumables straightforward.

Do not buy it if the bin is your bottleneck. The 300X carries exactly the same 16 gallons as the smaller 230X, so a doubled hopper does not mean fewer trips to empty — if anything you will empty it more often. Where bin size is the problem, the AutoFeed+ 600X steps to 29 gallons and four hours of run time on a larger cabinet. Do not buy it if a policy names P-5 or micro-cut in the DIN sense; the AutoFeed+ 300M is this machine with a 2 x 15 mm head. And no AutoFeed+ model handles optical media.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a 300-sheet load empty the bin?

It will fill a good part of it. The bin is 16 gallons and cross-cut waste is bulky and settles poorly, so a single full hopper typically accounts for roughly half the bin's usable volume. Plan on emptying after every second load. The machine stops when the bin is full, so an unattended run cannot overflow.

Can it shred staples and paper clips?

Yes, both, and they can go into the hopper without being removed. Credit cards are accepted through the manual slot. CDs, DVDs, laminated pouches, adhesive labels and continuous form paper are not rated for this machine.

What is the duty cycle?

Sixty minutes of continuous operation, the longest in the small-cabinet AutoFeed+ models and twice what the 230X offers. After that the machine needs to cool. In practice an hour is enough to clear a full hopper and then some, which is why this is the model to choose if you shred in scheduled sessions rather than a page at a time.

Will legal paper fit?

Yes. The manual slot is 9.1 inches wide, which takes US legal at 8.5 inches and A4 at 8.27 inches without folding. Legal-size sheets can be loaded in the hopper too, though a stack of one uniform size always feeds more reliably than a mixed one.

What bags fit it?

ACCO part 1765010, the 13-19 gallon plastic shredder bag, sold 25 to a box. ACCO names the 300X and 300M explicitly on that bag's compatibility list, so this is one of the few models in the range where the consumable is unambiguous.

Is P-4 enough, or should I be looking at P-5?

P-4 is the level normally specified for confidential business records, and it is the right default unless something in writing says otherwise. Go to P-5 when a client contract, a regulator or an internal policy names it, or when the material is unusually sensitive — personnel files, medical records, financial account data. The AutoFeed+ 300M is the same machine at P-5, so the upgrade costs you nothing in capacity or footprint.

Is this NSA approved?

No. NSA/CSS 02-01 requires 1 mm x 5 mm particles and listing on the NSA Evaluated Products List, and no AutoFeed+ model meets either test. P-4 and NSA listing are not adjacent standards; they are several classes apart.
