GBC AutoFeed Plus 230M Shredder

At 230 sheets per load the AutoFeed+ 230M is where this range stops being a personal shredder and starts being a small-office one. It keeps the P-5 micro-cut head that runs through the whole M-series - 2 x 15 mm particles, 30 mm2 - but pairs it with a 16-gallon bin and an eight-sheet manual slot, up from six on the 100M and 150M. A full ream is 500 sheets, so roughly half a ream goes in at a time and shreds while you get on with something else.

Setting It Up and Living With It

At 15 by 19 inches and 29 inches tall the 230M is a floor-standing unit rather than a desk-side one, and it needs to be reachable from the front so the 16-gallon bin can be pulled clear without moving the machine. Allow airflow clearance at the back and sides.

The two habits that keep an auto-feed shredder working are flattening creased paper before loading and pressing down the waste in the bin now and then. Micro-cut output is fine and does not settle on its own, so bins in this class routinely look full when they are not. Liners are the only regular consumable and are not supplied with the machine.

Who Should Buy This - and Who Should Not

This is the sensible choice for a small professional office - three to eight people - where confidential paper accumulates steadily and someone has to deal with it weekly. The combination of a large hopper, P-5 security and a bin that does not need emptying after every load is what makes the machine stay in use rather than becoming an obstacle in the corner.

Do not buy it expecting continuous shared duty. Thirty minutes of run time is generous for batch work but it is not the same thing as the continuous rating on a commercial cabinet like the CX22-44, and if a dozen people are walking up to it through the day you have bought the wrong category. If your batches are consistently larger, the AutoFeed+ 300M uses the same 16-gallon bin but raises the hopper to 300 sheets and doubles the run time to 60 minutes, which is a much better fit for genuine bulk sessions. If your batches are smaller, the 150M saves both money and floor space at the same P-5 cut. And if P-5 is more security than your policy requires, the X-series equivalents give more sheets for the money at P-4.
