GBC AutoFeed Plus 230M Shredder

The GBC AutoFeed+ 230M is a floor-standing auto-feed shredder that takes 230 sheets per load and cuts them to DIN 66399 P-5 micro-cut particles of 3/32 x 5/8 in (2 x 15 mm). Its 16-gallon bin and 8-sheet manual slot make it the first model in the micro-cut AutoFeed+ line sized for a small professional office rather than one person.

From personal to small-office shredder

The 100M and 150M are desk-side machines with 6-sheet manual slots. The 230M changes three things. The hopper holds 230 sheets, so a typical week of invoices, statements and mail from a small office goes in at once. The bin grows to 16 gallons, which is what really reduces how often someone has to deal with the machine. And the manual slot takes 8 sheets, handy for the creased letter or credit card that should not go through the hopper. The cut stays at the same 30 mm2 P-5 particle as the smaller M models, comfortably inside the 160 mm2 that P-4 would allow.

Placing and running the 230M

At 15 x 19 x 29 in this is a floor unit. Stand it where the front is clear so the 16-gallon bin can slide out without moving the cabinet, and leave space at the back and sides for airflow. A full load is designed to finish inside the 30-minute run time; do not let the bin overfill during a run, since packed waste backing up into the cutting chamber causes jams. Press the fine P-5 shred down occasionally before deciding the bin is full. Liners are not included and no part number is published for this bin.

• AutoFeed+ 300M: same P-5 cut and 16-gallon bin, but 300 sheets per load and 60 minutes of run time. Better for back-to-back loads.
• AutoFeed+ 150M: 150 sheets, an 11.6-gallon bin and a smaller cabinet at the same cut; saves space if your batches are modest.
• AutoFeed+ 230X: the P-4 counterpart with 230 sheets, a 16-gallon bin and a 10-sheet manual slot.

Is the 230M right for your office?

It is a sensible fit for a professional office of roughly three to eight people where confidential paper piles up and someone clears it weekly. Do not expect it to replace a continuous-duty commercial cabinet such as the GBC CX22-44 if a dozen people use it through the day. And if no policy or contract asks for P-5, the X-series gives more capacity for the money.
