The AutoFeed+ 230X is the point in the range where the machine stops being a personal appliance and starts being shared. A 230-sheet hopper and a 16-gallon bin are enough for a small team's week, and the manual slot steps up to ten sheets.

It is worth being clear about what the extra capacity does and does not buy. The cutting head, the noise level and the P-4 security are identical to the 60X and 150X; what changes is how much you can put in before you have to come back. If two or three people are dropping paper into the same machine, that is exactly the specification that determines whether it gets used.

A note on the word micro-cut. ACCO labels the whole AutoFeed+ range micro-cut while rating the X models P-4 and the M models P-5. Under DIN 66399 a particle of roughly 4 x 30 mm belongs to the cross-cut classes; micro-cut begins at P-5, where the particle must be 30 mm² or smaller. We classify by the standard rather than the marketing term, so this machine files under cross-cut and P-4. If a policy names micro-cut and means P-5, an M model is the one that satisfies it.

Specifications

ACCO does not publish a basis weight behind the auto-feed and manual-feed sheet ratings, nor a motor wattage or shipping weight for this model, so those rows are omitted rather than estimated. Ratings in this category are normally quoted on paper lighter than US 20 lb bond, so treat the hopper figure as a best case. ACCO's brochure and our supplier data disagree on the cabinet width by two inches; we have published the brochure figure.

What's in the Box

Shredder with auto-feed hopper, 16-gallon pull-out bin and power cord. Bags are separate. ACCO names part 1765010 (13-19 gallon plastic shredder bags, 25 to a box) for its 300X and 300M, which use the same 16-gallon bin size; ACCO does not explicitly list the 230X against that part, so check the fit before committing to a case.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the 230X for a two- to four-person office, a reception desk that handles incoming mail, or a practice manager who collects a department's confidential paper and clears it in batches. The 16-gallon bin is the real upgrade: at P-4 the waste is bulky, and a bin you empty weekly rather than daily is the difference between a machine people use and one they queue at.

Do not buy it as a floor shredder. Two hundred and thirty sheets is a batch, not a day's output for a busy department, and the 30-minute run time is a hard ceiling; the AutoFeed+ 600X quadruples both. Do not buy it if you need P-5 — there is no 230M in the current range, so the nearest micro-cut answers are the AutoFeed+ 300M above it or the 150M below. And if your material includes CDs, DVDs or hard media, this range does not handle them at all.
