GBC AutoFeed+ Home Office Shredder, 150X, Super Cross-Cut, P-4, 150 Sheets

The GBC AutoFeed+ 150X is a home-office auto-feed shredder that takes a 150-sheet stack and cuts it unattended to DIN 66399 P-4, in super cross-cut particles of 5/32 x 1 3/16 in (approx. 4 x 30 mm). Its 30-minute run time and 11.6-gallon bin let one or two people clear a month of confidential paper in a single sitting.

A bigger bin without a bigger footprint

The 150X occupies the same 15 x 17 in of floor as the AutoFeed+ 100X; GBC simply made the cabinet taller, at 25 in, to hold an 11.6-gallon bin under the hopper. That matters more than it sounds. A shredding session that stops halfway because the bin is full is the main reason people give up on a home machine, and here a full 150-sheet load fits within both the 30-minute run time and the bin. Check the height if you plan to slide it under a shelf.

Loading the 150X for a clean run

A stapled folder can go into the hopper intact, and paper clips are fine too. Credit cards belong in the 8.7 in manual slot, which also takes single pages and anything creased. The pick-up mechanism works best with a flat, uniform stack, so smooth out folded letters, remove sticky notes and keep glossy mailers for the manual slot. If a long session runs beyond 30 minutes, the motor needs time to cool before restarting.

Bags and the P-4 label

Liners are not included. GBC names no bag for the 11.6-gallon bin: its published bag sizes go from 6-8 gallons (part 1765016) to 13-19 gallons (part 1765010), so measure before ordering. On security, GBC has described the AutoFeed+ heads as micro-cut, but at about 120 mm2 this particle is cross-cut P-4 by the DIN standard. Micro-cut in the DIN sense begins at P-5.

Choosing between the 150X and its neighbors

• AutoFeed+ 100X: 100 sheets, a 9-gallon bin and a 20-minute run time in a shorter cabinet.
• AutoFeed+ 150M: the same cabinet and 11.6-gallon bin with a P-5 2 x 15 mm micro-cut head and a 6-sheet manual slot.
• AutoFeed+ 230X: 230 sheets, a 16-gallon bin and a 10-sheet manual slot for a slightly busier room.

Who should buy the 150X

It fits a home office, a small practice or a private office where one or two people want to deal with paper in occasional batches. If more than about three people share the room, a 230X or 300X is better matched. Choose the 150M if a policy names P-5. It is not NSA listed and does not accept CDs or DVDs.
