Is the 45 kW version worth the extra over the 30 kW?
It depends on your material and your feed pattern. Both builds press at 500 kN and make an identical 1,100 x 750 mm bale, so bale quality and bale weight do not change. The larger drive shortens the cycle, which shows up as sustained throughput on low-density, springy material like film and on peaky infeed. On a steady cardboard stream the 30 kW build usually keeps up, and it costs less to install and to run.
How much material can it get through?
HSM quotes up to approximately 442 cubic metres per hour of volume throughput for the VK 5012, on materials with a bulk weight up to about 60 kg/m3. That is a volumetric figure, not a tonnage one, and the tonnes per hour you achieve depend entirely on what you are baling. We would rather size the machine from a description of your actual waste stream than from a headline number.
How are bales tied and removed?
Automatically. Wire strapping is applied by the machine - four wires as standard, five as an option for expansive material - and the finished bale is ejected from the end of the press channel. No operator opens a door or ties anything by hand. You need forklift access at the discharge end and somewhere to stage bales; that is the only manual handling in the process.
Can I change the bale size?
Bale width and height are fixed by the channel at 1,100 x 750 mm. Bale length is set in the control system anywhere from 600 to 1,200 mm, which is how you control finished bale weight. Shorter bales are lighter and easier to handle; longer bales pack a trailer more efficiently. Most sites settle on a length that fills their forklift capacity without exceeding it.
Will it bale plastic film without the bale bursting?
Film is exactly the case HSM offers five-fold strapping for. Four wires handle cardboard and mixed paper reliably; expansive materials push back hard after ejection and are better held by five. If film is a significant part of your stream, specify the five-fold option at order rather than retrofitting it. Tell us the mix and we will spec it with HSM.
What power supply does it need?
A 480 V, 60 Hz three-phase supply sized for a 45 kW drive, which in practice means a dedicated feed and a switchgear check rather than an existing spur. If energy cost matters over the machine's life, ask about the frequency-regulated drive option - HSM states it uses 40 % less energy than the standard drive, and on a motor this size that is the difference between a good and a poor total cost of ownership.
Why is no machine weight listed?
Because we could not verify one. Our catalogue figure converts to about 20,000 kg, while an independent listing for the same press gives 17,500 kg for the 30 kW build. We are not willing to publish a rigging-critical number we cannot source from HSM directly, so we have removed it from the specification table and will confirm the certified weight for your configuration before delivery is arranged.
