What is the difference between the 30 kW and 45 kW VK 5012?
Only the drive. Both builds are the same 500 kN press with the same 1,020 x 1,250 mm loading aperture, the same 1,100 x 750 mm bale cross-section and the same automatic four-wire strapping. The larger motor moves the ram through its cycle faster and holds that rate on springy material such as film, so it sustains higher throughput. If your infeed is steady, the 30 kW build does the same job on less connected load.
How heavy are the bales and how big?
The bale cross-section is fixed at 1,100 mm wide by 750 mm high. Bale length is adjustable in the control system between 600 and 1,200 mm. HSM quotes a maximum bale weight of up to 480 kg; the figure you actually achieve depends entirely on the material, and loose film bales considerably lighter than dense cardboard. Set the length so the finished bale suits your forklift capacity and your trailer loading plan.
Can it be fed by a conveyor rather than by hand?
Yes, and that is the intended use. The pressing cycle is controlled by a light barrier, so the machine strokes on demand as material arrives. HSM states it is suitable for continuous loading by conveyor belt, air feeding or similar. Hand feeding through the aperture is possible but wastes the automation - most installations pair it with a belt or a chute from a shredder or a baling line.
What materials can it bale?
Cardboard, mixed paper, plastic film, punch waste and offcuts, big bags, HDPE and LDPE hollow containers, PET bottles and used beverage cans. HSM specifies it for materials with a bulk weight up to approximately 60 kg/m3. Denser feedstock is outside the published application range. If you are baling something unusual - laminated stock, textile offcuts, foam - send us a sample description and we will check it against HSM before you commit.
Does it use wire or plastic strapping?
Wire. Strapping is fully automatic, four wires per bale as standard, with a five-fold option that HSM recommends for expansive materials that try to spring back after ejection. Wire is a consumable you will reorder regularly, so factor it into running cost alongside power. We supply HSM baling wire to suit.
What space and services does it need?
The published footprint is roughly 8.9 m long, 4.0 m wide and 3.0 m high, so plan for a bay rather than a corner, plus clear forklift access at the discharge end for finished bales. Electrically it needs a 480 V, 60 Hz three-phase supply sized for a 30 kW drive. We survey the site and confirm the exact civil, electrical and access requirements before the order is placed.
Is the machine weight really 20 tonnes?
We are not prepared to state it as fact. The figure carried in our catalogue works out at about 20,000 kg, while an independent equipment listing for the 30 kW VK 5012 gives 17,500 kg. Both are plausible for a press of this class and they may simply describe different configurations. Because rigging is quoted off that number, we will confirm the certified weight for your exact build with HSM in writing before delivery.
