What throughput does HSM actually publish for this machine?
Three figures, all from HSM's datasheet: 223 m³/h in idle operation (theoretical), 4.47 t/h on material with a bulk density of 20 kg/m³, and 11.16 t/h at 50 kg/m³. The idle cycle time is 16.6 seconds. Use the tonnage figures when sizing against a waste contract; the volumetric figure assumes the chamber is being fed continuously with nothing in the way.
How much faster is it than the 20.12 HP version?
HSM does not publish throughput or cycle time for the 15 kW VK 5012, so an exact ratio would be invented. What is certain is that the press, the chamber, the aperture and the bale are identical, and the difference is entirely pump speed. If you need a firm comparison for a capital case, ask HSM for the 15 kW cycle time in writing; we would rather leave the gap visible than fill it with a guess.
What does a full bale weigh and how do I move it?
Between 300 and 550 kg, at 1,100 x 750 mm in cross-section and 600 to 1,200 mm long. That needs a counterbalance forklift or a bale clamp, and a flat area with room to stack. HSM's model overview also quotes a headline maximum bale weight of 480 kg for the VK 5012; the detailed datasheet gives the 300–550 kg range. The difference is material dependence, not a contradiction.
Can it handle big bags and bottles at this speed?
Yes, that is what the machine is for. HSM lists HDPE and LDPE hollow containers, plastic bottles, big bags, plastic film, punch waste, mixed paper and cardboard. The 1,020 x 1,250 mm aperture swallows big bags whole and the four wire ties hold rigid containers against springback. What matters more than the drive rating is whether your feed system delivers a consistent stream rather than surges.
What is the installation like?
Substantial. The press is 8,990 mm long, 3,990 mm wide and 3,000 mm tall and weighs 17,500 kg empty, and it needs rigging, levelling, a three-phase connection and commissioning by an HSM engineer. Add feed conveyor, discharge run-off and maintenance access on at least one side. Budget for the installation as a separate project line, not as delivery.
Is 480 V correct, or is this a 400 V machine?
The US article data lists 480 V / 60 Hz three phase and that is what we publish. HSM's European datasheet for the same press lists 400 V / 50 Hz, and HSM offers 380 V / 60 Hz on request. For plant of this size the electrical arrangement is confirmed at order stage against your site supply, so treat the listed figure as the expected configuration and get it confirmed in writing.
