Description

This is the VK 2310 configured to keep pace with a busy line: the same 240 kN channel press and the same 1,000 mm long feed aperture as the 12.34 HP model, but with a 15 kW drive that brings the idle cycle down from 17.2 seconds to 9.4. If the reason you are looking at a channel baler is that your current press cannot keep up, this is the variant that answers the question.

The VK 2310 exists for long material. Its aperture measures 670 x 1,000 mm, against 620 x 600 mm on the VK 2306, so unfolded cartons, trim and offcuts go in whole. Bales come out at 700 x 500 mm in cross-section, adjustable between 600 and 1,200 mm long, tied with three wires, weighing up to about 250 kg. Specific pressing force is 64 N/cm².

At 6,095 mm long, 2,863 mm wide and 1,940 mm high it is a low, long machine — worth knowing if the constraint on your site is headroom rather than floor.

What's in the Box

No formal scope of delivery is published by HSM for the VK presses. The machine is delivered for positioning, levelling, three-phase connection and commissioning. Feed conveyors, chutes, platforms and guarding are specified and quoted separately against your site layout.

Wire is not included. Tying is automatic using steel baling wire on rolls; the gauge is confirmed at commissioning. HSM also offers optional manual strapping equipment for tying loose material away from the press.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the 20.12 HP VK 2310 if you have both problems at once: long material and real volume. A 9.4 second cycle on a 1,000 mm aperture is a lot of capacity for a machine of this size, and it is the configuration most box plants and converting lines end up specifying.

Buy the 12.34 HP VK 2310 instead if the volume is moderate and steady. It has the identical aperture, press and bale; it simply cycles in 17.2 seconds rather than 9.4, and draws less connected load. There is no difference in bale quality.

Buy the 20.12 HP VK 2306 instead if nothing you bale is longer than about 600 mm. The 2306 is 835 mm shorter overall and slightly lighter, with the same 240 kN press and the same 15 kW drive. The only thing you give up is aperture length.

Do not specify this machine if your recycler pays a premium for mill-standard 1,100 mm bales, or if you are handling big bags and rigid HDPE containers in quantity. That is VK 5012 territory: 500 kN, four wires and bales to 550 kg.

How much faster is this than the 12.34 HP VK 2310?

HSM publishes an idle cycle time of 9.4 seconds for the 15 kW drive against 17.2 seconds for the 9.2 kW one, so the ram completes roughly 1.8 times as many strokes in a given period. Pressing force, bale dimensions, wire count and aperture are unchanged. If your press is currently the bottleneck in the line rather than the labour around it, that ratio is the number to plan against.

Will it fit under a low roof?

Probably, and this is one of the VK 2310's quieter advantages. The machine stands 1,940 mm tall, so it goes under mezzanines and low-bay steelwork where a vertical baler needing 3,000 mm of ceiling will not. What it needs instead is length: 6,095 mm of machine plus clear run-off at the discharge end for a bale to leave the channel and be picked up.

Is the bale a standard mill size?

It is a small mill bale: 700 x 500 mm in cross-section, 600 to 1,200 mm long, up to about 250 kg. Many paper mills and film reprocessors prefer the larger 1,100 mm wide bale that HSM's VK 5012 and VK 12018 produce, and price accordingly. Before you commit, ask your recycler what they pay for a 700 x 500 mm three-wire bale against a 1,100 mm four- or five-wire bale.

What materials is it approved for?

HSM lists plastic film, mixed paper, cardboard, punch waste and residue, PET beverage and aluminium cans, soft packaging and PET. It is not listed for rigid HDPE containers, big bags or general residual waste. Baling material outside the published list is not a warranty question so much as a wear question: abrasive or contaminated streams shorten the life of the chamber and the ram guides.

How is the bale length set?

On the control, anywhere between 600 and 1,200 mm. Longer bales use less wire per tonne and load trailers better; shorter bales are easier to handle and stack. The press applies three wires whichever length you choose. Changing length is a setting, not a mechanical conversion, so you can run short bales for one material and long bales for another.

Do I need a service contract?

HSM does not publish a warranty term or a mandatory service interval for the VK range, and we will not quote figures we cannot verify. What is true of every channel baler is that wire-tying heads and ram guides are wear items and that unplanned downtime on a baler backs up the whole line behind it. Ask for HSM's service terms in writing at the quotation stage.
