Description

Choose the 20.12 HP HSM VK 2306 when the press has to keep up with a line that does not slow down for it. It is mechanically the same 240 kN channel baler as the 12.34 HP version — same 620 x 600 mm aperture, same 700 x 500 mm three-wire bale, same 5,260 mm frame — but the 15 kW drive turns a theoretical 113 cubic metres an hour through the chamber instead of leaving your conveyor to back up.

The VK 2306 is HSM's most compact automatic channel press. Material drops in through the aperture, a light barrier triggers the ram, and tied bales leave the far end of the channel without anyone touching them. Bale length is adjustable between 600 and 1,200 mm and finished bales weigh 140–250 kg depending on what you feed it: dense old corrugated at the top of the range, loose film and soft packaging nearer the bottom.

At 5,260 mm long it is the machine you specify when a VK 2310 will not fit. The 2310 has a longer aperture and takes longer material, but it needs 835 mm more building.

What's in the Box

HSM publishes no scope-of-delivery list for the VK presses. The machine is delivered for positioning, levelling, three-phase connection and commissioning by an engineer. Feed conveyors, hoppers, platforms and site guarding are quoted separately against your layout.

Wire is not included. The press ties with steel baling wire on rolls, and the gauge for your machine is confirmed at commissioning. Treat wire as a standing consumable cost.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the 20.12 HP VK 2306 if the baler sits downstream of something that runs continuously — a sorting belt, a shredder, a converting line producing trim. 113 m³/h of idle throughput is enough headroom that the press stops being the thing everyone waits for.

Buy the 12.34 HP VK 2306 instead if volumes are modest and steady. It presses identically and makes an identical bale; the smaller motor simply cycles more slowly and draws less connected load. There is no compaction penalty.

Buy a VK 2310 instead if your material is long. The 2310 has the same 240 kN press and the same bale but a 1,000 mm feed aperture rather than 600 mm, which matters for unfolded cartons, trim and offcuts. It also runs a faster idle cycle at the same 15 kW: 9.4 seconds against the 2306's.

Step up to a VK 5012 if you are baling rigid HDPE containers, plastic bottles or big bags at volume. The 5012 presses at 500 kN into an 1,100 x 750 mm bale with four wires. The VK 2306 is a paper, film and light-packaging machine.

Does the bigger motor make heavier bales?

No. Both VK 2306 variants press at 240 kN into the same 700 x 500 mm chamber, so bale density and weight are the same: 140–250 kg depending on material. The 15 kW drive cycles the ram faster, which is why HSM quotes 113 m³/h of theoretical idle throughput and 5.63 t/h on material at 50 kg/m³. You are buying rate, not compaction.

What throughput will I actually see?

Less than the published figure, and how much less depends entirely on your material. HSM's numbers are: 113 m³/h in idle operation (theoretical), 2.25 t/h on material with a bulk density of 20 kg/m³, and 5.63 t/h at 50 kg/m³. Loose film sits near the bottom of that range, baled OCC near the top. Use the tonnage figures rather than the volumetric one when sizing against a waste contract.

How long a bale can it make?

Anywhere from 600 mm to 1,200 mm, set on the control. The cross-section is fixed at 700 x 500 mm. Longer bales mean fewer wire ties per tonne and better trailer utilisation; shorter bales are easier to handle if your forklift or your storage area is constrained. Three wires are applied regardless of length.

Can it run without an operator?

It is designed to. Loading is continuous from a conveyor belt, air feed or similar; a light barrier tells the press when to cycle; tying and ejection are automatic. What still needs a person is wire loading, bale removal, and routine inspection. A VK 2306 is not a machine you install and forget, but it is a machine that runs a shift without someone standing at it.

Is 480 V correct for the US?

The US article data lists 480 V / 60 Hz three phase, and that is what we have published. HSM's European datasheet for the same press lists 400 V / 50 Hz, with 380 V / 60 Hz available on request. Because supply arrangements for capital plant vary, confirm the exact voltage, phase and breaker requirement on your order acknowledgement before the electrical contractor quotes.

Why does this listing show a 620 mm aperture when other sites say 670 mm?

Because 670 x 1,000 mm is the VK 2310's aperture, and it gets copied onto VK 2306 listings regularly — including, previously, this one. HSM's detailed datasheet for the VK 2306 gives a loading aperture of 620 mm wide by 600 mm long. The model numbering is a clue: the '06' and '10' refer to the aperture length in decimetres.
