What is the difference between this and the 20.12 HP VK 2306?
Drive power only. Both are rated at 240 kN, both use the same 620 x 600 mm aperture, both make the same 700 x 500 mm bale with three wires, and both sit in the same 5,260 mm frame. The 20.12 HP (15 kW) machine cycles its ram faster, which HSM quotes as a theoretical idle throughput of 113 m³/h. HSM does not publish an equivalent throughput figure for this 9.2 kW variant, so we have not stated one.
How is a channel baler different from a vertical baler?
A vertical baler such as the V-Press 860 is loaded by hand through a door, pressed downwards, tied by hand and emptied by an operator. A channel baler is loaded continuously from above, cycles automatically, ties automatically and pushes finished bales out of the end of the channel. The trade is capital cost and floor space against labour: the VK 2306 needs a feed system but not an operator.
What size and weight are the bales?
The bale cross-section is fixed at 700 x 500 mm and you set the length anywhere between 600 and 1,200 mm. Weight runs from about 140 kg to 250 kg (309–551 lb), depending entirely on material — dense OCC at the top of that range, loose film nearer the bottom. Every bale is tied with three wires. You will need a forklift or a bale clamp to handle the output.
Can I feed it by hand?
You can, but it is the wrong machine if that is the plan. The VK 2306 is designed for continuous loading from a conveyor belt, an air conveying system or similar, and the light barrier control expects material to keep arriving. A hand-fed channel baler spends most of its life idle while still drawing its standing load. For hand feeding, HSM's V-Press vertical balers do the same job for far less.
Will it take PET bottles and aluminium cans?
HSM lists plastic film, punch waste and residue, mixed paper, PET, soft packaging and cardboard for the VK 2306. PET bottles bale well in this machine provided they arrive at the aperture as a steady stream. Cans and bottles springback hard, which is what the three wires are for. If your stream is dominated by rigid HDPE containers and big bags rather than PET, look at the VK 5012, which HSM lists specifically for those materials.
How much space do I need around it?
The machine itself is 5,260 mm long, 2,600 mm wide and 2,050 mm tall. Beyond the frame you need clear run-off at the discharge end for a full bale to leave the channel and be picked up, access down at least one side for maintenance and wire loading, and whatever your feed system requires above the aperture. In practice a VK 2306 installation occupies noticeably more than its own footprint.
Where do these dimensions and weights come from?
From HSM's own published article data for this press. One caution worth stating plainly: the specification feed that previously populated this page listed a 670 mm aperture width for the VK 2306, which is in fact the VK 2310 figure. HSM's detailed datasheet for the VK 2306 gives 620 x 600 mm. If a competing listing quotes 670 mm for a 2306, it has copied the wrong sibling.
