What "very expansive materials" means in practice

Polystyrene, expanded packaging, thick film and some plastics spring back after compression and keep loading the straps for hours. That slow, steady pressure is what snaps an under-rated tape, not the brief peak inside the press. WG 65 carries more than twice the rating of WG 40 for exactly this reason.

Wider tape means more material per strap and fewer meters per roll, so WG 65 costs more per bale. That is the trade for keeping springy bales intact. It will not run on small V-Press machines built for 8 mm or 11.7 mm tape.
