Description

WG 65 is the widest and strongest polyester tape HSM lists, and its purpose is specific: HSM's own consumables table describes it as the tape for very expansive materials. That means bales that push back hard after pressing - foam, film, expanded packaging - where a narrower strap will either snap or let the bale relax out of shape. At 17.3 mm wide and rated 800 kg, it is more than twice the strength of WG 40. The roll carries 400 m.

The four HSM polyester tapes step up in a predictable way: WG 30 is 8.0 mm and rated 280 kg, WG 40 is 11.7 mm and 380 kg, WG 55 is 14.6 mm and 670 kg, and WG 65 sits at the top with 17.3 mm and 800 kg. The roll length drops from 500 m to 400 m at WG 55 and above, so the wider tapes cost more per bale on two counts - more material per strap and fewer metres on the roll. That is the price of holding a springy bale together.

Reorder by part number 6216 993 000. If you are running a mix of cardboard and expanded material through an HL 3521 S, note that HSM also lists a separate HD 65 tape, article 6216 993 050, for that machine - the two are not interchangeable and the part numbers differ only in the last three digits.

What does HSM mean by expansive materials?

Material that springs back once the ram lifts - polystyrene, expanded packaging, thick film, and some plastics. The bale keeps pushing outward against the straps for hours after it leaves the press. That sustained load, rather than the peak force during pressing, is what breaks under-rated tape, which is why HSM specifies the 800 kg WG 65 for these applications.

Can I use WG 65 on a V-Press 605 to get extra strength?

No. At 17.3 mm it will not run through the guides or sealing head on the small V-Press machines, which are built for 8 mm or 11.7 mm tape. If your V-Press bales are bursting, the fix is checking the bale weight against the press rating and the number of straps, not fitting wider tape.

Is this the same as HD 65?

No. HD 65 is HSM article 6216 993 050 and is listed for the HL 3521 S and V-Press 860 S/P. WG 65 is article 6216 993 000. The two part numbers look nearly identical, so quote the full number when ordering and check what came off the machine before you reorder.

How long does a roll last?

There is no single answer, because the CP4988, Dixi 30S/50S/60S and HL 3521 S produce different bale sizes and use different numbers of straps. As a rough guide, divide 400 m by the girth of your bale multiplied by the number of straps, then add roughly 10 percent for tensioning slack. We would rather give you the method than quote a bale count that does not apply to your machine.
