Strapping tape WG 55 for V-Press 1160/V-Press 860/VL 500 - HSM6514993000

HSM WG 55 (part 6514 993 000) is a 14.6 mm polyester strapping tape rated at 670 kg, supplied on a 400 m roll. It is the tape consumable for HSM's large vertical balers, the V-Press 860, V-Press 1160 and VL 500. On the 860 and 1160 it is only usable when the optional tape station has been fitted, because those presses tie with wire as delivered.

Wire or tape: check how your V-Press 860 or 1160 is configured

The V-Press 860 and 1160 leave HSM set up for four-fold wire strapping. Polyester tape is an option that needs HSM's tape station on the machine. If your press has no tape station, this roll is no use to it; you need pre-looped wire instead, part 6135 993 002 for the 860 or 6136 993 002 for the 1160. If the station is fitted, WG 55 is the correct tape.

Why big bales need a 670 kg strap

A V-Press 860 bale is 1200 x 780 mm and up to 1200 mm tall, weighing as much as 480 kg. The 1160 produces 1200 x 1100 mm bales up to 1200 mm tall and 550 kg. WG 40, rated 380 kg, falls well short of those loads, and a strap that fails on a bale that heavy is a safety hazard. Stay with WG 55 even though it costs more per roll.

Large bales and a shorter roll mean WG 55 runs out faster than the 500 m tapes used on small presses. Four straps around an 860 bale use roughly 20 m, so one roll ties about 20 bales. On a busy press that is closer to a week of work than a month, so keep spare rolls in stock.
