Description

ST1 is intimus's baler strapping, supplied as a 1,650 ft roll — the length is what the “1650” in the part designation refers to. It is the consumable that closes each finished bale on an intimus shredder-baler. Without it the press will compact paper but has no way to hold the bale together once the platen retracts.

Compatible Models

  • intimus 14.87 shredder-baler combination
  • intimus 16.86 shredder-baler combination

Both machines are supplied with the same baler unit (intimus part 475904), which is why a single strapping part covers the pair. intimus documents that bales on these machines are “secured with two bale straps”, and quotes a finished bale weight of 130–175 lb on the 14.87.

If you run a different intimus baling product — a PACMASTER press, for instance — confirm the strap width with us before ordering. We have not been able to verify that ST1 is the correct width for those machines and would rather check than sell you the wrong roll.

Specifications

Part number ST1
Roll length 1,650 ft (approx. 500 m)
Type Baler strapping
Fits intimus 14.87, 16.86 (baler unit 475904)
Straps per bale 2, per intimus's baler documentation
Brand Genuine intimus consumable

For reference, intimus's international consumables catalogue lists strapping tape in three roll sizes — 300 m, 400 m and 500 m. At roughly 503 m, the 1,650 ft ST1 corresponds to the largest of those.

Strapping is the consumable most often forgotten on a baling installation, because unlike bags it is not visibly consumed every day. It is also the one whose absence stops the machine outright: a press that cannot close a bale cannot cycle, and clearing a partially compacted bale by hand is a job nobody volunteers for twice. Sites running a 14.87 or 16.86 in earnest generally keep at least one spare roll in the same room as the machine rather than in a central stores area on another floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bales will one roll strap?

intimus does not publish a bales-per-roll figure, and we are not going to estimate one. It depends on the girth of your bales, whether your operators leave slack when tensioning, and how much is lost to off-cuts. The honest guidance is to record how far into the first roll you get over a known number of bales and use that as your reorder trigger.

How many straps does each bale need?

Two. intimus's documentation for the 14.87 states that bales are secured with two bale straps. On that machine a finished bale weighs between 130 and 175 lb, so the strapping is genuinely load-bearing rather than cosmetic — a bale that lets go on a forklift is a real problem.

Will ST1 work on my 16.86?

Yes. The 14.87 and 16.86 shredder-baler combinations are both built around the same intimus baler unit, part 475904, so they take the same strapping. That shared baler is the reason one strapping part covers both machines in our catalogue.

Can I use generic polypropylene strapping instead?

Possibly, but the variable that matters is width, and a strap that is even slightly wide for the guide channel will bind on the feed. We have not been able to verify a published width specification for ST1, so we cannot tell you which generic size matches. If cost is the driver, ask us and we will get the width confirmed with intimus rather than have you buy a roll that will not thread.
