Kobra Cyclone HS6

The Kobra Cyclone HS6 is the high-security configuration of Kobra's Cyclone industrial shredder, fitted with the 006 screen that Kobra rates at approximately P-7 under DIN 66399, the top of the paper scale. Like the standard Cyclone, it loads up to 500 sheets at a time into a rotary cutting chamber, but the much finer screen reduces paper to granulate rather than shreds. It is intended for government agencies, defense contractors and accredited sites that must destroy documents above P-5 in industrial quantities.

How a screen produces P-7 particles

The Cyclone has no fixed cutting width. Material tumbles in a rotary chamber and is cut repeatedly until the pieces are small enough to drop through the screen. With the 006 mesh, the result meets the P-7 limit of 5 mm² or less, so the output looks like fine granulate. The trade-off is speed: the finer the mesh, the longer material circulates, and throughput falls well below the standard Cyclone's. Kobra publishes no hourly figure for the 006 build, so ask for a demonstration with your own paper if output is critical. Screens stay interchangeable, and the screen fitted is what defines the level you can certify, so confirm and record it on delivery.

Dust, waste volume and materials

Granulating paper creates very fine dust, which is why the chamber is closed and connected to an integrated vacuum system. Treat that extraction as a service item. The fine waste is light and bulky; the optional compactor reduces its volume by a factor of four to five. The HS material list is narrower than the standard Cyclone's: paper, credit and chip cards, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray and floppy disks, but not cardboard, bottles or cans.

About NSA claims

Kobra states that the Cyclone HS range meets NSA/CSS specification 02-02 for paper and 04-02 for optical media. That is a manufacturer statement. For US classified material, verify this exact model and configuration against the current NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List before purchase; a P-7 rating alone is not NSA listing.

• Kobra Cyclone (standard): the same chassis with coarser screens, much higher output and a wider material list that includes cardboard, bottles and cans.
• Kobra 430 TS C2 AO: P-5 with a conveyor and far greater paper throughput, for requirements that stop at P-5.

Who should buy the Cyclone HS6

Buy it when a documented requirement calls for destruction above P-5 and the volume justifies an industrial machine that takes 500-sheet batches instead of a narrow high-security slot. It is overkill for typical commercial privacy programs, where P-5 is sufficient. At 75–85 dB(A) and 970 lb, it belongs in a dedicated destruction room with hearing protection available, not an office.
