Kobra 400 C2 AUTO OILER

The Kobra 400 C2 AUTO OILER is the machine to specify when a policy says P-5 and the department still has to get its work done. It cuts the same 1.9 × 15 mm particles as the much smaller 310 TS CC2, but a 2.9 HP drive and a 16-inch throat lift the rating from 19 sheets a pass to 31. That is the single fact that distinguishes it: P-5 output without the throughput collapse that usually comes with it.

• Automatic reverse and safety stop. Jams reverse automatically; the machine stops when the bin is removed or the bag is full.
• Handles cards, discs and USB drives. Kobra's US listing for this model includes credit cards, chip cards, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, floppy disks and USB flash drives alongside paper and film.
• TAA compliant and NPSA approved. Trade Agreements Act compliant and NPSA approved for UK government use.

What's in the Box

Delivered assembled on casters with the automatic oiler fitted and a 53-gallon collection bag frame in place. Kobra lists three items separately as accessories or consumables, none of which are included in bulk: waste bags art. SB-35 (50 per box), shredder oil art. SO-1032 (7 oz) and the document shelf art. SH-400. No warranty term is published on Kobra's US datasheet for this model; ask for it in writing if it matters.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

This is the right machine for a legal practice, a finance function, an HR department or any team whose retention policy names P-5 and whose people will not tolerate a queue. At 31 sheets a pass and 30 ft/min it is faster than the P-4 machines a class below it on the smaller chassis, and the 16-inch throat means wide reports do not need folding.

Do not buy it for classified destruction. P-5 is not NSA approval, and this model is not on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List — for that you need the KOBRA 400 HS-6 AUTO-OILER in the same cabinet, which cuts 0.8 × 5 mm at P-7 and is EPL-listed. Do not buy it for a small office either: at 222 lb it is a fixed installation, and if P-5 is only needed occasionally the KOBRA 310 TS CC2 AO delivers the same particle size in a 121 lb cabinet. If your policy stops at P-4, the Kobra 390 C4 AUTO OILER is cheaper to run and takes 33 sheets.
