Kobra 260 HS-2

The Kobra 260 HS-2 is a P-6 high-security shredder that cuts paper, cards and film to 1/32 x 7/16 in (about 0.8 x 11 mm) and takes up to 13 sheets per pass on a 1 1/2 HP motor. It is the departmental version of the 260 HS, with twice the motor rating and a faster 24 ft/min feed. Legal, HR and finance teams that need P-6 destruction for several users are its target.

Where the extra speed comes from

The standard 260 HS uses the same class of P-6 head on a smaller motor and manages 6-8 sheets at 17 ft/min. Fitting the 1 1/2 HP motor to the HS-2 lifts both numbers at once: up to 13 sheets at 24 ft/min, or roughly two and a half times as much paper per minute. In a shared office that is the difference between people shredding as they go and people stacking papers in a box for later.

The drive is a heavy chain on steel gears turning carbon-hardened knives, and stapled documents can go in without being unpicked. Paper clips are harder on a fine head, so remove them where practical. Automatic start and stop, automatic reverse on jams, and interlocks on the door and on a full bin round out the controls.

P-6 versus P-7: what this machine is and is not for

P-6 is well beyond the P-4 cross cut found on most office machines and suits highly sensitive commercial and personal records. It is not a classified-destruction machine. NSA/CSS 02-01 limits particle length to 5 mm, and the HS-2's particle is about 11 mm long, so it is not on the NSA/CSS EPL. The P-7 version of this chassis, the 260 HS2-6, is the listed model.

Running the 260 HS-2

Budget for two consumables: shredder oil and bags for the 22-gallon bin, neither of which is included. Oiling the head at least at every bin change keeps the tight P-6 tolerances working. The 10.25 in opening takes US Legal flat; Tabloid needs folding, which counts double against the sheet limit. At 112 lb, plan a two-person lift or tail-lift delivery above ground level.

• KOBRA 260 HS2-6: identical 1 1/2 HP chassis with a P-7 cut of 0.8 x 5 mm, up to 10 sheets, and an NSA/CSS EPL listing. Paper and films only.
• KOBRA 260 TS C2 AO: P-5 at 1.9 x 15 mm with a touch screen and auto oiler, 12-14 sheets at 70 gsm, if P-6 is more than your policy asks for.

Who the 260 HS-2 is for

Buy it when P-6 is your internal standard and several people shred every day. If shredding is a weekly task for one person, the 260 HS is the cheaper route to the same security class. If the paper is classified, step to the 260 HS2-6 instead.
