Kobra 260 HS

The Kobra 260 HS is a floor-standing P-6 high-security shredder that cuts paper into 0.8 x 9.5 mm particles and takes 6-8 sheets of 70 gsm paper per pass through a 10.25 in (260 mm) throat. Its castored cabinet holds a 22-gallon (85-liter) bin, more than double the bin of the deskside 240 HS that shares its cut. It suits one or two people who handle sensitive files every day and want P-6 without emptying a small bin constantly.

Why the 260 HS is the larger-bin route to P-6

The 240 HS and 260 HS cut identical particles. What changes is the cabinet: the 260 HS has a wider 10.25 in opening and a bin more than twice the size, in a footprint of 17 x 12.25 in (43 x 31 cm) that still fits beside a desk. For a user who shreds sensitive paper every day, that means far fewer trips to empty the bin. P-6 particles pack densely, so the full bin will be heavier than its size suggests. An interlock stops the cutters when the bin is full or the cabinet door is opened.

What P-6 covers on the 260 HS

A 0.8 x 9.5 mm particle sits well below the coarser P-4 cuts found on most office machines. P-6 is the level organizations specify for personnel investigations, unpublished financial results, commercially sensitive drawings and similar material where reconstruction must be effectively impossible. The T-6 and F-3 parts of the rating extend that to cards and film. P-6 is a commercial level, not a classified-government standard, and the source does not place this model on any government list.

Running the 260 HS day to day

Cutting this finely limits each pass to a handful of sheets, but the chain drive on steel gears and a motor rated to run around the clock mean long sessions are not a problem. Electronic sensing starts and stops the head, automatic reverse clears an overloaded feed, and standby cuts power use when the unit sits idle. The carbon-hardened knives accept staples in normal amounts; remove paper clips to protect the fine teeth.

Oiling is essential on a P-6 head. Kobra offers an Accu-Flow automatic oiling kit as an option for this model, but it is not fitted as standard. Order shredder oil and waste bags with the machine, since neither is included.

Is the 260 HS the right fit?

It fits a director's office, an HR manager or a small legal team that destroys sensitive paper in modest volumes and wants a large bin. Choose the 260 HS-2 if several people will queue at it, and a P-4 machine if your policy does not require P-6.
