Does 52 sheets mean it is twice as fast as the SS4?
No. It takes roughly twice the stack per pass, but at 8 ft/min it moves paper through the throat at about a third of the standard SS4's 22 ft/min. Net throughput over a long, well-fed job is comparable or slightly lower. The real benefit is tolerance: users can load thick handfuls without jamming the machine, which in a shared office usually matters more than raw speed.
Is it as secure as the other 240 models?
It is the least secure cut in the range in practical terms, though it shares the P-2 classification with the SS4, SS4 Turbo, 240.1 S4 and 240.1 S5. A 1/4 inch strip leaves long readable lines of text. Use it for general office paper. For anything covered by a privacy obligation, choose a particle cut — the KOBRA 240.1 C4 at P-4 is the usual step up.
Can I leave staples and clips in the documents?
Yes for ordinary staples and paper clips; KOBRA states the carbon hardened knives are unaffected by them across the 240 series. No for binder clips, bulldog clips and ring binder mechanisms, which are hardened steel and will chip cutting teeth. Also keep out laminated sheets, adhesive labels in quantity, and anything wet.
How quickly will the bin fill at 52 sheets a pass?
Faster than you might expect. The 9.5 gallon bin holds roughly the same volume regardless of how quickly you fill it, and 1/4 inch strip waste is bulky and does not settle. On a sustained archive-clearing session plan on emptying every twenty to thirty minutes. KOBRA does not publish a sheets-per-fill figure, and the safety stop cuts power whenever the bin is out.
Does it shred CDs?
Yes, CDs, DVDs and floppy disks are within rating, along with credit and chip cards. Feed discs one at a time rather than mixed into a stack of paper. The separator mechanism inside the bin keeps the plastic fragments away from the shredded paper so the paper can still go to recycling.
Can it run all day?
Yes. The motor is specified as 24 hour continuous duty with thermal protection and no cool-down interval. In practice you will stop to empty the bin long before the machine needs a rest.
