KOBRA 240.1 S5

The KOBRA 240.1 S5 is the highest-capacity shredder on KOBRA's 240.1 chassis, cutting 1/4 in (about 6 mm) P-2 strips at up to 31 sheets per pass with an oil-free head. With a 10.5-gallon cabinet on casters and a motor rated for continuous use, it is meant for mailrooms, print rooms and busy departments clearing large amounts of non-confidential paper.

Why the wider strip means a bigger stack

The S5 shares its 4/5 HP motor, throat and cabinet with the 240.1 S4. What changes is the strip: at 1/4 in it is roughly twice as wide, so the cutters make fewer cuts in each sheet and the same drive gets through five more sheets per pass. DIN 66399 places both widths in the P-2 band, so you trade a finer strip for speed without changing the formal class.

The motor is rated for 24-hour continuous duty with no cool-down interval and drives the knives through a heavy-duty chain and metal gears. The carbon hardened knives take staples and clips. KOBRA lists the 31-sheet figure without a paper weight and notes that supply power, paper weight, quality, grain and temperature all affect real capacity.

Living with the 240.1 S5

Wide strip waste is bulky and does not settle, so expect the 10.5-gallon bin to fill faster than it would on a cross-cut machine. The cabinet rolls on casters, the head stops when the door opens or the bin is full, and an automatic reverse clears overloads. Electronic eyes handle start and stop, LED indicators show status, and standby begins 8 seconds after the last sheet under KOBRA's Energy Smart System. No oil is needed and no bags are packed with it.

Picking between the S5 and its neighbors

If you want narrower strips at the same P-2 level, the KOBRA 240.1 S4 cuts 1/8 in at up to 26 sheets. Once documents carry personal data, move to cross cut: the 240.1 C4 is P-4 at up to 17 sheets, and the 240.1 C2 is P-5 at up to 12, both with automatic oilers. For a tighter space, the KOBRA 240 SS5 offers a comparable 1/4 in cut in a 33 lb deskside cabinet with a 9.5-gallon bin. Need a bigger bin with the same idea? Who the 240.1 S5 suits, and who it doesn't

Choose it when the job is clearing paper fast: print offcuts, superseded reports, routine files that have reached the end of retention. Leave it aside for anything confidential. Its 1/4 in strip is the coarsest output on this chassis, and P-2 is not what most privacy policies accept for names, account numbers or medical detail.
