Kobra +2 SS4

The Kobra +2 SS4 is a two-bin deskside shredder: a 3.8 mm (1/8 in) strip cutter for paper at DIN 66399 P-2, plus a separate 5.0 in (125 mm) slot that destroys CDs, DVDs and plastic cards into their own container. It handles 17-19 sheets per pass on 70 g/m² paper. It suits a front desk or records room that shreds plenty of routine paper and also has to dispose of old discs and ID cards without mixing plastic into the paper recycling.

What the second slot adds over the +1 SS4

On the paper side, the +2 SS4 matches the single-throat +1 SS4: same strip width, same sheet count and same 38.5-liter bin. The difference is the media path. Discs, credit cards and chip cards go into the narrow slot and land in a 1.5-liter plastics container, while paper keeps to its own bin. That separation is useful wherever shredded paper goes to recycling and plastic is not welcome in it.

The media slot is not a high-security optical cutter. Kobra rates this head P-2 O-2 T-2 E-2, so discs and cards come out as coarse pieces. It is appropriate for expired badges, loyalty cards and archive discs holding routine material.

Paper security at P-2: where it fits

Strip cutting makes only lengthwise cuts, which keeps the stack large but leaves readable fragments of each line along a 3.8 mm ribbon. That is acceptable for internal paperwork without personal details, such as delivery notes, internal printouts and old rotas. For payroll, patient or client files, look at a cross-cut model.

Day-to-day operation

Sensors in the throat start and stop the cutters automatically, and an overloaded stack is reversed back out. The knives stop when the bin is pulled or full. Kobra's carbon-hardened steel cutters are rated as unaffected by staples and paper clips. Energy Smart standby lowers power use between jobs, and neither bin uses liners, so there are no bags to buy. Make a habit of checking the small plastics container as well as the paper bin.
