HSM V-Press 860 Plus B Vertical Bailing Press

The HSM V-Press 860 plus B is the wide-mouth version of HSM's largest vertical baler, and the number that matters is 1,500 mm — the width of its loading aperture, against 1,195 mm on the standard 860. That extra 305 mm is what lets you push bulky film, big cartons and awkward packaging straight in instead of cutting them down first, and it is why this machine produces a 550 kg bale where the others stop at 480 kg.

It is the same 594 kN press and the same 4.8 kW drive as the rest of the 860 family, but it is built around a different bale: 780 x 1,200 x 780 mm rather than the square 1,200 mm bale of the eco. Its theoretical idle throughput of 32.5 m³/h is roughly two and a half times the eco's, because the chamber swallows so much more per fill. One important limitation: HSM lists the plus B for cardboard and plastic film only. Mixed office paper is not on its material list, where it is on the eco's and the plus's.

• HSM TCS (Torsion Control System) monitors the press ram for twist. A ram that starts to skew in the chamber is the usual cause of expensive frame damage on vertical balers.
• Rapid stroke technology runs the ram fast through free air and slows it only when it meets resistance, which is where the 25 second idle cycle comes from.
• Automatic start after door close, so the operator loads, shuts the door and walks away. No two-hand start button to hold.
• Hand wheel door lock with counter-rotating thread — one turn locks or releases both sides.
• Membrane keypad with text display reporting machine state and faults in words rather than blink codes.
• Four-fold wire tying as standard. A polyester tape station is available as an option.

What's in the Box

As with the rest of the V-Press range, HSM publishes no formal scope of delivery. The press ships assembled and skidded with its operating instructions, and requires rigging and a three-phase 480 V / 60 Hz connection installed by an electrician.

Wire is not supplied with the machine. HSM's wire for this chassis is 2.8 x 3,700 mm pre-looped, part 6135 993 002. Polyester tape (WG 55, part 6514 993 000) requires the optional tape station.

Who Should Buy This — and Who Should Not

Buy the 860 plus B if your waste is bulky more than it is heavy: stretch film and shrink wrap off pallets, large appliance or furniture cartons, poly bags. The wide aperture means fewer knife cuts before baling, and a 550 kg bale means fewer collections. Film balers in particular should start here rather than at the standard 860.

Buy the 860 plus instead if mixed office paper is part of your stream. HSM lists the plus for cardboard, mixed paper and film; the plus B is listed for cardboard and film. That is a material-list difference worth respecting rather than testing. The plus is also 335 mm narrower, which matters in a tight dock.

Buy the 860 eco instead if the budget is the constraint and your cartons are ordinary. It presses just as hard, takes the same materials as the plus, and costs less because you open its doors yourself.

Do not buy this machine if you need a defined published noise level for a workplace assessment. HSM publishes approximately 62.9 dB(A) for the standard 860 but does not publish an equivalent figure for the plus B, and we would rather leave the row blank than copy across a number from a different machine.
