How big is the finished bale, and how do I move it?
The V-Press 860 eco makes a bale measuring 1,200 x 1,200 x 780 mm (47.24 x 47.24 x 30.71 in) weighing up to 480 kg / 1,058 lb, depending on what you put in it. That is a forklift job, not a pallet-truck job, and it is the standard mill-size bale that paper mills and film reprocessors buy at the best rate. Make sure you have a forklift rated for the weight and somewhere flat to stack bales before the truck comes.
Is baling wire included?
No. The machine ties four wires per bale and you buy the wire separately. HSM specifies pre-looped wire of 2.8 x 3,700 mm, part number 6135 993 002. If you would rather use polyester tape (WG 55 tape, part 6514 993 000), that requires the optional tape station to be fitted to the machine — it is a factory option, not something you can add by simply buying tape. Budget for wire as a running cost from day one.
What electrical supply does it need?
A three-phase 480 V / 60 Hz supply. The drive is rated 6.44 HP, which is 4.8 kW. HSM's European datasheet for the same machine lists 4 kW at 400 V / 50 Hz; that is the identical motor at a different line frequency, not a different specification. The connection has to be made by a qualified electrician, and it is worth confirming the exact breaker size with HSM or with us before the electrician quotes.
Will it fit in my building?
The press is 1,797 mm wide and 2,985 mm tall, and HSM asks for a minimum ceiling height of 3,000 mm — the ram needs headroom above the chamber. Depth is the one figure worth confirming on your order acknowledgement: HSM's US article sheet for 6148113 gives 1,363 mm (53.66 in), while HSM's European catalogue lists a V-Press 860 eco at 1,070 mm. The difference is almost certainly a door configuration, but check it if your aisle is tight.
Can it bale plastic film as well as cardboard?
Yes. HSM lists cardboard, mixed paper and plastic film for this model. Film is harder work than OCC because it springs back hard against the wires as the door opens, so expect lighter bales from film than from cardboard even though the press force is the same. If film is your main material rather than an occasional one, look at the 860 plus B, which HSM builds specifically for film and cardboard and which produces heavier bales through a wider aperture.
How many bales an hour can I expect?
HSM publishes a 25 second idle cycle time and a theoretical idle throughput of 12 m³/h (424 cft/h). In real use the limiting factor is how fast a person can feed the chamber, and HSM's own technical sheet for the 860 quotes an hourly output of one to two bales. Treat 25 seconds as the ram speed, not the production rate — loading, tying and ejecting take far longer than pressing does.
How loud is it?
HSM publishes an acoustic level of approximately 62.9 dB(A) for the V-Press 860. HSM does not state the measurement distance or whether that figure is taken under load, so treat it as an indication rather than a number to design a hearing-protection policy around. In practical terms it is a quiet machine for its size; the loudest event in the cycle is usually the door, not the pump.
What is the warranty?
HSM does not publish a standard warranty period for the V-Press range in the way it does for its document shredders, and we will not quote one we cannot verify. Warranty and any service agreement are confirmed on the order documents. If warranty length is a deciding factor between models, ask us to get it in writing from HSM before you place the order.
